An economy reset is not a "FOMO parlour trick" it is an even ground for all trade players to enjoy, and a new leaderboard to compete on for all of those who competitively play SSF or HC, it is essentially how every ARPG in existence works.
Okay, then why did you say:
"
Even without RMT, the economy would still be totally messed up after a few weeks.
We're in agreement that its loses all meaning "after a few weeks" and you've readily admitted its done to "encourage" player behavior. That applied psychologic manipulation.

Again, you are just twisting my words into an idea that suits yourself. It's a bad faith argument, and it's rude. Obviously having an even ground to trade in and new leaderboards is good, and obviously game developers encourage good gameplay loops.

If there were no reset, nobody new to the game or returning could even meaningfully participate in trade or challenges.
That's your personal opinion and not even what I'm proposing. I think those that want a reset league should be afforded it. Those that don't care about such things should also be allowed to experience the new content.

This is getting off-topic, but you're not actually discrediting my claim. You're simply stating you don't like the way it sounds, especially if it's true.

Sure, and there are other players that don't care at all about such things and just want to be permitted access to the same content as everyone else with their current toons.

There are plenty of players that don't care at all about the economy and just want to play the new content with their current toons or make a new character with their existing stash. Why not give both sets of players the same treatment?
If you are talking about SSF Standard, then you can already do that, so I'm not sure what you are talking about. In 0.2 they allowed Standard players to interact with the new content. I haven't seen any news about this being different in 0.3.
What are you asking for and arguing about, exactly?
Are you unaware it is a thing you can already do or are you just arguing for the sake of it?
In reality, what you are asking for already exists. If we are having a theoretical debate, then I would say they should exclude standard from the new content until the next release, to encourage people to participate in the live service model they are actually working on, and to show people like you that it's not "negative progress" it's "new progress" that is more fun, fresh, and exciting.
This will change. Allowing permanent leagues to access the league content is an exception during EA. They've said they intend to have league specific mechanics and rewards after the full launch.

You are literally exhibiting why it is a problem right now. You are vehemently opposed to starting fresh because you have never done it, and the only reason you have to consider it is to play the new content. This is just how a lot of humans work. They don't like change, or things seemingly taken away from them.
What you don't understand is you are signing up to play a dead game you never hear from, because all of the new players will be like you, in standard never engaging with the community on league starts, saying "I don't want to start over", and all of the old players will be bored, have less of a reason to play, and less excitement for new things.

You need to talk to some humans outside my friend. I have discussed your claims and given you plenty of opposing arguments. You just choose to ignore them and to twist my words to fit your agenda.

The reason is because exclusivity is the draw to the new content that drives hype for many people to start anew.
Quality, novel content draws in players on its own. It doesn't need FOMO parlor tricks to sell itself.

If it is, then every PvP game with leagues is also just a FOMO trap. If that's true then I simply don't care. Game are ran by businesses. Game companies need a player base to make money to keep existing. Expecting a game company to not have any marketing or efforts to improve their profitability is exceptionally naive.

I would reference the talk I linked earlier where they discussed this point to support the point you're replying to.

1. How do you know?
2. Why is that a problem?

Why are you vehemently opposed to me playing a video game the way I want to play it? My argument is that league and Standard can and should coexist with concurrent release of novel content. Your argument is that I should be penalized for not playing the way you like.
