This is a fair observation, although the numbers look very different for HC, where ES prevails.


This is one of the challenges with balancing - the devs need decide around which game mode to balance, and it is mostly done with with the one with most players.

It is not possible to achieve a balance in the sense that universally everyone picks different things at the same rate. That is not how balance works. Players do not pick skills and builds because of their balance, they pick them for the sake of enjoyment.



Players pick based on enjoyment, developers task is to ensure balance = all builds are equally enjoyable.

The other one would be to automate the nodes so, that the most picked nodes would have less value, and the seldomly picked nodes more.



All equally balanced = all equally enjoyable, is just not a true equation.

I do not see this ideal world you speak of. It seems very arbitrary and like it would not feel good at all. You are punishing people for following builds now? Just weird design that doesn't fit with how most people play the game.

Some skills need love, they don't feel great to progress with. Especially QOL of less invested skills in the campaign. Maybe life needs more options to scale, I dunno. But to say someone in the uber late game min-maxxing a stat you don't normally use, to a point where it's unnecessary, is affecting your enjoyment or experience, is just dishonest.

If minions are average I will play minion, if they are good I will play minion.

Notice how none of these are liches.


It's kind of disgusting how high ES numbers get with some of these builds. GGG, I implore you to nerf ES in Patch 0.4.0 for the health of the game (pun intended).
Chaos Inoculation is the primary culprit. It's been getting inordinately buffed since launch.
