CharlesJT is right, balancing defences and removing + levels on non-unique items will both make POE 2 a better game.

And the measurement which is to be used for a better game = more players.

On HC SSF (btw) there are 12 players at level 100 now. 10 of them rely on ES.

On HC, there are 22 players at level 100 now, 21 of them rely on ES.

You can check the rest at poe ninja, but clearly the above numbers are not balanced.

As for the + levels, all of the above characters have them pretty much on all possible items.

Since patch 0.3.0, armor archetypes have received an elemental reduction modifier that operates before the reduction applied by resistance stats.

In practice, armor can be just as strong as energy shields.

Virtually, armor (physical reductions) + body chest pieces (elemental reduction modifiers) + resistance caps + life recoup + life regen => Brings builds to an immortal state.

Why are energy shields more popular? Simply because they're easier to use, as they cover the entire range of damage, not because they're overpowered.

Armor builds are more challenging because they require multiple layers of defense (physical armor + elemental reduction on the chest + cap resistance + regeneration + health regeneration) for a result equivalent to energy shields at high levels.

Therefore, CharlesJT is completely wrong in that he's calling for a nerf to something that works, based on something he doesn't understand in terms of mechanics, something that received a significant buff in 0.3.0 and is called armor. Clearly, he's missed the point regarding physical and elemental damages reduction and the techniques for recouping from damages.

Arguing that the game needs to be challenging when it already is, except that he doesn't perceive the depth of the mechanics the game offers in terms of defensive layering.

And the measurement which is to be used for a better game = more players.

Well, the game launched with over half a million players, and each league launch attracts 240,000 to 300,000 players. Frankly, I have more faith in GGG's game directors than in CharlesJT's nerfed vision.

It is true, that the 0.3 armor buff made it a bit more viable, hence 1/20 of lvl 100 players are pure armor, rest are es.

Currently there are zero pure evasion players in top 100, so that obviously requires a buff also.

But, even with those buffs, it wont be an even split - pure es will still dominate, even if armor is currently viable.

So, if we wish to balance the game further, should we buff armor (and evasion) even more, or nerf ES?

As for GGG's vision, this forum is intended for giving feedback for it, which is also the purpose of this thread.

PS. yes, I'm aware there are hybrid builds as well, but for the sake of the argument we can disregard them for now.

I really struggle to find a valid point on all of his thread, the only one that make sense to me is the community approval.

It's a relentless attack on the game. He dosen't even understand path of exile at all and he also admitted that he never liked POE 1 to begin with.

Everything becomes a UNO card reverse each time he's being challenged. Each new interaction becomes an opportunity to gaslit and troll the players.

Now I brought up that defenses are not even a thing and that the game don't even rely on them since builds can nuke screens and kill bosses fast and he uses the reversal of "blaster mentality"

Nothing intelligent is ever brought up. Even when he's faced with the facts on how this game is built, he still goes all in with his narrative of "es is too strong and needs to be giga-nerfed" so that the games becomes better.

There is simply nothing anyone can do at this point. These threads are not made in good faith nor have a constructive goal for the game. It's an ego trip and I think you are onto something when you say its for community approval.

im sure the vast majority of players that use Energy Shield DO NOT have 10k or even 9k because the insane STUPID prices on EVERYTHING.

yea becouse some jeanius players playing with top quality items found in 0.1.0 patch still blame others for their ignorance of getting good gear with any way.

GGG erase all items and let us have a fresh restart and then we talk about top and weak players.

Dawn of the Hunt league and Rise of the Abyssal league are challenge league. Each new challenge league provides a fresh economy and a fresh start for items as everyone do start with no items from them provided from the last leagues.

So arguing that items "top quality" founds in 0.1.0 interfere with challenge league and stats issued from them, is a misinterpretation.

And if one day, a "genius" player blames you for your ignorance, then raise your head up and ask him for advice. Because with each parcel of tricks, advices and game mechanics explanation you get, will make you a genius as the others :) you are a genius in becoming but you don't already know. Once you start to master the mechanics.

The true value of communauty is neither the opposition, nor the echo chamber of lamentations but the ability to access to a collective intelligence of players who enjoy the game as you.

Consult POE2 Ninja for the actual league and the latest snapshot : TOP 10 there are two pure evasion build based on Deadeye archetype, one with 15K evasion and the other 20K evasion.

Also consult the official PoE2 ladder for confirmation.

Are we really playing the same game?

As long as any league returns to standard mode there will be always unjustice game.

+1 to all item in standard mode to be deleted.
Seems like many people don't like the idea of Giga-Nerfing Energy Shield. As I'm not married to this idea, what about below instead?

Remove some of the ES nodes on the Passive Tree and then sprinkle in a few Life nodes? The goal would be to tone down ES builds slightly while buffing Life builds.
