The cost of death!
" That's odd you use that as and example, being that one of the other complaints this game has, is the campaign is too long and tedious. I guess that's just more gaslighting by the minority of players that are unsatisfied. If they all got to endgame and dropped off, why aren't the reviews reflecting that? I don't typically leave a good review for something that lost it's fun at endgame. Zuletzt bearbeitet von mikeab79#3627 um 10.02.2025, 20:20:20

" They consider to reduce the difficulty/penalties around that, sure... but you should not get the impression that they will remove the EXP loss. If you die less because they "nerfed" things that can kill ppl - they will to 99% NOT remove the EXP penalty. |

" Are you suggesting 19% players hated the campaign and never reached map, which they would have most likely loved if only they got there ? Yeah. Wild suggestive guesses based on nothing. |

" There's probably a fair few of them that dropped after playing the campaign and were satisfied with that and will wait for the rest of the acts. It's anyone's guess why players leave. Some leave for feeling there is a lack of content, others for just not liking the game, others moving on or bouncing between games and come back on some interval, others leaving because of end game, others leaving quite clearly because of the current death penalties. It just seems to me that it shouldn't be would not lose this much average player count this fast. Not like it's an MMO that has no content once you're max level other than a gear treadmill, ostensibly single player games always tend to retain players longer feels like when it has a good gameplay loop or reason to end game or roll alts. |

" OR, and hear me out. There is a chance that after 3 months into the first EA season, just like all other seasonal games, the player base dropped off. PoE2 - 3 months into a season - 86,475 players online currently D4 - 3 weeks into a season - 9,815 players currently online *data from steam charts https://steamdb.info/charts/?compare=2344520,2694490 Does this mean that catering to the people that want an easier game is a terrible idea and will actually lose more players? Numbers wise, it seems PoE2 is doing better than the more successful D4. Zuletzt bearbeitet von mikeab79#3627 um 10.02.2025, 20:35:39

For everyone who has no clue how the player retention normally looks like for "Path of Exile", here is the overview:

" Good lord ! A finished game with an extension and no death penalty having 10x less players than a not even half finished game with death penalty ? Damn bro. I can't even guess which company listen to the vocal minority and which doesn't. Zuletzt bearbeitet von dwqrf#0717 um 10.02.2025, 20:51:54

" Absolutely a skewed comparison since D4 launched on battle.net at probably around 8mil units. What you could do, though, is compare the % of current vs. peak. PoE2 - 86,475 / 578,569 = ~15% D4 - 9,815 / 55,561 = ~17.6% I don't care, as I'm not playing either, and likely won't come back to PoE2. I just keep my eye out here in the way off chance that the devs actually try to make this a decent game, but PoE + this makes me think they don't actually know how to. This is the second time here I've had to call someone out for fake news on steam stats comparing these 2 games. Last analysis I did determined that steam numbers likely account for 10%-15% of total D4 players. https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3714822/page/2 Zuletzt bearbeitet von GeoFruck#1167 um 10.02.2025, 21:08:59

" Who's making up numbers now? It's a shame PoE2 is only on steam and no other platforms. Zuletzt bearbeitet von mikeab79#3627 um 10.02.2025, 21:22:26

" Yeah, I know getting called out for fake news is no fun. The 50/50 split for PoE2 with steam/GGG is not going to help your case. It will likely make it much worse. |
