ISP has been shit for years, GGG has ever been quite inovative so my wages are on them ! Dont let us down plx!


Oh dear , I know this struggle and it can feel overwhelming. I've had connection issues and packet loss in the past and have many occasions I had to go to war with my isp to get them to take responsibility. If you haven't already compile a winmtr log incase its packet loss, this gives you a little more ammunition when taking on your isp as they are the ones who direct you to the location and if you can prove its where they are directing you or even one or more nodes your bouncing off of it will help force them to look into and fix or come up with a way to better provide you a more enjoyable experience. ISP's run rampit and love blaming everyone else , as you i'd love to put my money on GGG fixing the issue but a lot of the time it's something out of their power and just leads you in that never ending loop. I hope this gets fixed though as the league is wicked good and I just wish everyone could enjoy it whole heartedly as much as I have and am able to.
i'm at 1&1 and the game is unplayable for me. Pingspikes all over the place, every single day, every time, every server. Its just not playable. My baseping on the EU servers startet at like 10-20ms during the first day of the league, now its at 60-80 plus the pingspikes all the time.

Its just not playable and its sad and frustrating that nobody seems to care. GGG does NOTHING, Telekom does NOTHING, 1&1 does NOTHING.

So the only option for the players is to quit PoE untill the problem will fix itself in several months (or never ...)?
same here on 1&1 can't get past level 90 with constant lag deaths reseting the process.

It shows a ping of 32 when locking in, it jumps to 68 when in game and I hit regular spike around 300, some way higher. Unplayable or to put it in words GGG might understand "i can't justify putting real money in microtransactions when I can't play the game"

But is blaming the isp really the solution? I stream hd us sports content halfway around the globe with no lags and I can play every other game without a problem.

"Blaming" the ISP is not the solution, but they are the only ones who can solve this issues. But you - as a private person - will never ever get a technical skilled enough person from them to analyze the issue and if (just in case you are such a lucky person), i highly doubt they can fix it for you...

The reason for the lags is the Backbone Routing between providers (Peering with other ISPs / AS (autonomous systems) )
That means, it does matter a lot through which systems you connect. And streaming portals are something totally different, they typically use CDNs and these have direct peerings with hundreds of other AS on central nodes. Also, streaming is more or less not affected by "Jitter" (variing latency), as it downloads a burst of data in the buffer and then plays on your device without further network actions (don´t worry, the "network" pause is just miliseconds or seconds but fine enough that you would not notice high latency etc...)
Playing online requires more or less what we call "real time traffic" behaviour, similar to telephony.

You would need to analyze the Hops / AS Paths between your internet access and the target Servers.

I´m lucky that i got my own (virtual) Server "somewehere else" so i just installed OpenVPN on it. now if i wanna play PoE, i simply connect to my server and the latency is constant, no spikes. And even if i got more hops from there, it is simply much more stable.

This is my trace without a VPN, using directly my Telekom DSL:

Having the same problem. It started at the same time as for everyone else. Talking to some friends and they dont have any problems at all. I am using the Deutsche Telekom aswell. During the night and in the morning hours its all fine and i have a ping at around 26ms. But starting at around 13:00 it starts to become unplayable. Some areas are toally fine and others are a complete mess. Sometimes spikes and flatlines at around 1600ms. Due to those lags i am forced to play during the night or in the early morning. Because when i start the game, and see those lags i just close it again, because i cant play like that. I hope this gets fixed soon, otherwise i have to quit the league because there is no point in playing under such circumstances.
Crazy unplayable lagspikes on any server starting at around 16:00 lasting till 23:00. (sometimes it starts earlier)

Before or after this time window the game plays butterly smooth @ around 20 ping on most eu servers. ( like it should ? ;/ )

Just got off the phone with Telekom again. After 3+ weeks of almost daily contact i got in contact with someone who actually had a fucking clue. He actually looked at the WinMTR logs i sent him and looked through this thread and saw all the other WinMTR logs. It's a peering issue and they have no interest whatsoever in fixing it.

Their best solution: start a forum or facebook thread and get as many people as possible to post, so maybe, just maybe, one of the people from Telekom will look at it and do something. People have tried that for many years though and it doesn't help at all.
Simply put: if you're stuck with Telekom, 1&1 and whoever else uses their network, then you're simply fucked and can't play PoE without a VPN.

My advice: cancel your Telekom account anyway. Vote with your wallet. German internet is a fucking joke and it'll never get better as long as Telekom has a monopoly.

Unplayable at the moment. (telekom)
one instance is fine than you switch do the next and you have a 300+ ping.. only you can do is reloading instance over and over again!
Only happens in prime time. So annoying i am really happy TFT is coming out tonight :)
