Leagues are the dumbest part of this game
|
Trying to make Standard more appealing is an interesting idea but it amounts to a lot of work that a strong majority of the players just don't want.
It also would force GGG to void league content much more aggressively. There's all kinds of nuts items existing in PoE 1's standard but because no one cares about Standard, it's basically fine. In a world in which Standard is a more serious game mode that can't be allowed to slide. That's not a completely unsolvable problem but it's a continual high amount of work and likely to piss people off. Ask yourself, would you be any happier with a character merging into Standard if half their gear got deleted (or nerfed enough to amount to it) each time? (It also pretty much torches the game's financial model.) |

In my opinion, leagues are ok BUT... and it's a big BUT.. leagues should've had their own dump realm separate from standard if they wish to do it like that. The fact that item balance doesn't affect pre-existing items is also especially dumb for this kind of thing.
Standard legitimately just feels like a trashbin and that's incredibly cringe and dumb. It feels like an insult to even call it standard. And an insult to people that want to play "standard". "Sigh" Zuletzt bearbeitet von IonSugeRau1#1069 um 24.12.2025, 02:09:00

Leagues are a must have for ARPGs, otherwise there wouldn't be any reason to boot up an ARPG ever again after you finished it.
Kripp and Chris figured out together that leagues are the only possibility to replay an ARPG. So meta changes and extra content brings players back. |

" Some people have played and enjoyed Diablo 2 as a full single-player game for over 10 years without a single league update. I suppose you're also unaware of the number of people who quit Path of Exile because of these leagues. Neden yaşıyorsun? Zuletzt bearbeitet von Jideament#2792 um 24.12.2025, 03:25:06

" Sure, and Blizzard did regular ladder/economy resets for online most of that time, which basically are the grandpa of leagues. Ladder was always widely perceived to be the "real" game even if you could elect to ignore it (the equivalent of playing Standard.) |

Then these people have to grind Diablo again, because PoE will be always about leagues

" I don't think you're wrong, but I think PoE is much more about maximizing your screen time than leagues. There's no other game that makes you spend so much time on completely pointless things like GGG games, and I know a lot of gamers who love that. That's what makes leagues essential for PoE, not the other way around. If GGG found an easier way to maximize your screen time, they'd drop the league mechanic immediately because league mechanics mean too much work for them, generating far less revenue than selling tomatoes per customer. i agree with you. making standart a little better will be good. right now we get 4 months league period. new leagues are dead after 1 month eventually. so, for example, if we get 2 months new league play time and then finish the league, merge everything to standart and give players 2 months of standart play time. could be good. but could be bad for poe1. i don't know.

From a game play perspective the league serves only one purpose: resetting the economy.
Check trade on standard. It's absolutely worthless to try and do any meaningful trading because the nature of currency based trading means everything costs impossible amounts of money. Unfortunately for new players, drop rates remain normal so you'll absolutely never be able to catch up properly, as only big ticket items would be worth anything. Good luck finding one. All this is circumvented by resetting every 3 months. From a business perspective the league serves a much more important purpose: a minority of people want to absolutely dominate every league start. There's a metric ton of sales happening every 3 months for new stash tabs, cosmetics tailored around the league, gamble boxes... And if you start from 0, you're more likely to buy new things. And they can offer free weekends to attract new customers who are on equal ground for like 30 minutes before the cartels crash the econ with some new exploit hahaha |
