Unique’s Are trash in POE 2
" I wouldn't defend their unique design, its pretty pointless to spend development resources on items nobody will use - every unique should have a purpose even if its to make leveling easier when you get one early. About 50% of the non specific boss uniques right now they could dragbox and delete without having any impact and I think that is kinda sad. They just need to divide up the design goals for uniques and put them into each (like build enabling, leveling, meme, general power etc) then rework all the ones that don't actually go anywhere as well as fixing all the ones that get gutted by their drop level. dev/artist time to skin a unique, stat it, give it its ingame appearance for it to never be used is just gross to me :/ |

If you are not a systems designer and ask an AI like chat gpt or grok how senior system game developers go about making items in general they follow a distinct pattern these days (2025 ).
Like rares should have X multipliers that lower TTK by Y so on and so forth. But it is actually taught in game design lessons that uniques should never imrpove character power, movement speed, but instead offer a 'unique' new playstyle and + - 20% of powerlevel of rares. This is exactly what POE 2 has been doing. Most uniques have something 'unique' about them but are in most cases underpowered compared to good rolled rares. GGGy are following what they have been taught in university. This formular is great because it follows a master value : TTK. And everything should be balanced around this value in the game if you want a balanced game. For some reason whoever is responsible for skill tree and skills has to be a junior dev and forgot about this value , hence the horrible balancing isses. HOWEVER the magic is lost, The chaos is lost, The tales are lost, The ink runs dry if you don't unleash the beast every once in a while. POE needs more chase uniques that people are willing to farm. " Totally agree. There are a few interesting ones, but you either find them very later in the game and they are low level, therefor useless, or they simply cannot rise to the power of standard items.. Sad.. They need at least to scale with character level, or upgrade them somehow.. |
