Which GPU/CPU combo are you using?

Hello guys, playing poe2 from December 2024 and for now, my major issue has always been the fps.

I am currently running the game at 1440p with a ryzen 5 5600 coupled with a 5060ti 16Gb and, even if I can play pretty decently in 90% of scenario, when it comes to stuff like expeditions/abyssal/breeches and the map is full of monsters it becomes unplayable.

It is sad because I don’t feel comfortable in playing a lot of content since I am scared af to die because of the fps drop. Even tho I am playing a volcanic fissure warbringer (the visual effects of this build are amazingly high), I feel like having a low/medium 2022 cpu and a low/medium 2025 gpu and not being able to properly play the game (lowering every visual effect) should’t be normal.

Yes, I have lowered every stuff possibile and I have tried my DLSS on performance and ultra performance
Yes, I deleted the shader folders
Yes, I tried both Vulkan and DX12
Yes, I overclocked my CPU already
Yes, I updated the drivers
Yes, I tried every combination of graphic settings and internet guide I found

I mean, It’s a bottleneck problem since when my fps drop my gpu is not at 100%. And no, switching to 1080p doesn’t help.

It looks like the game runs properly in some areas (100% gpu and 50%cpu usage) and extremely bad in others, at the point that my cpu becomes a huge bottleneck for my graphic card.

Dynamic culling helps in some way but it fails to activate 7 times out of 10, so you can’t really rely on it.

Since I can’t see a lot of you guys reporting graphic problems, I was wandering Which combo are you using to play?
Is this game really only playable with an x3d processor and a 4070TS+ gpu?

PS: This is not meant to be a Flame, I love the game, but the fact that I have to get a 7800x3d to play really upset me.

Cheers

The game simply is not optimized right now. Even with a 9800X3D ur fps will drop in certain scenarios.

I'm running a Ryzen 5800X3D (can recommend) with an RTX 5080 and in some abyss areas my fps drops to below 40. It's unfortunate, but there's not much we can do about it right now.

If ur CPU is a huge bottleneck for u, I'd maybe upgrade to a 5700X3D or 5800X3D (if u can get one) before buying into AM5. That should be way cheaper.

Thanks for the reply buddy.

I evaluated the 5800x3d (an op cpu yet) but unfortunatly is impossible to find anywhere to buy.
The 5700x3d is almost 300 euro atm… considering that the 9800x3d + a cheap b650 MoBo is around 570 it looks a bit unfair ^^. If I could get a 5800x3d for 200-250 I would go for it, but since I can’t the options are jumping to AM5 or waiting for GGG to optimize.

Anyway, hearing that even a 9800x3d could have problems running some areas Made me histerically laugh!

5700x3d
6900xt
Resolution 4K
DX12
All water cooled
Ram is the only thing OC
60fps about 90% of the time.
Windows 10
No crashes

Damn, 300€ is alot for the 5700X3D. I got my 5800X3D second hand from a vendor with 2 year warranty for 160€ last year. Was a lucky buy I guess :D

I just checked, the same vendor doesn't even sell X3Ds for AM4 right now. So maybe u're right, AM5 might be the way to go... although I wouldn't cheap out on the mainboard if I pay 400+€ on the CPU :P

Dude, you're pushing your processor too hard. This game is very demanding on your processor. You have a video card that's much faster than your processor in terms of performance. You need a processor with at least 4.5GHz, ideally 5GHz OC. Reduce it to 1080p, Vulkan FSR mode, low textures and lights. Set the FPS to 60 or 70.

AMD rx7500xt
i9 10850k
32gb ram 3200Mhz

i run in 1080p

7800x3d and 7900xtx here. In general fps is acceptable but dips when I am on Abyss maps. Having 30ms latency from 60ms actually helped my game more than tweaking the graphics settings
The game is heavily CPU bound when a lot of stuff is going on (especially during breach and abyss holes). Even the guys with the most powerful CPU in the world are getting fps drops. So there's not much you can do unless GGG optimizes CPU usage in these scenarios.
Thanks for the reply and for the tips guys.
I would like to clarify that when I say “fps drop” I mean 15fps or lower, so it’s not a matter of doing less than 60 fps but a matter of not being able to understand what is happening on the screen and to react consequently.

I would like to understand if even 7800 and 9800x3d owner are experiencing this Kind of issue, because I would pay to play with 40fps in those scenarios :D

I mean, on T15/T16 Maps is almost impossibile for me to start a breech or an expedition. Rituals are bad af as well. I usually run my rotation and pray.. Fortunatly I am well equipped and most of the times I survive spamming skills randomly, but It’s not funny at all, especially when you die without knowing why : ‘(

Im on 14900k, never had an issue
