Permanent Quest Reward Choices (Hinekora Tattoos and Venom Draught)
I just got a character up to lvl 54 on hardcore but I picked the wrong venom draught during a late night gaming session. It might as well have just died.
Permanent stat boosts are bad. This game is about min maxing stats and the stats you want change as you progress. These permanent quests force you to only care about the stats you will want in the final version of your build assuming you even know what that is ahead of time. They're a trap. It's baffling these permanent choices were added at all and unacceptable they've stayed in the game this long. And now in act 4 you've doubled down. Do better. PoE2 is fantastic in spite of this though. Looking forward to 0.4. |

" +25% Stun Threshold +30% Elemental Ailment Threshold +25% Mana Regen is choosing mana gen over the others really going to kill you if you have enough defence/res on your character? |

" No. But that's the entire end game loop that drives players to keep playing past the campaign. ARPGs like POE2 (and POE1) have an end game primarily driven by the never-ending quest for more character power. More stats, more gear, more levels, more loot. The more you get the harder it is to get more. Spending a week grinding XP to get from 99 to 100 for one more passive point that will get you 15% increased mana regen on top of your 300% isn't needed either. People do though. Happily. If you enjoy the grind and want to make your character as strong as you can these permanent stat quests can scar a character if the wrong one is picked. It's a source of character power that isn't accessible unless you start over. I picked stun threshold because I usually play shield builds. This time I needed the mana regen. Oops. My character will forever have -25% mana regen. |

" I just feel as if adding a bunch of things to go to, to reroll the quest rewards, is not the most pertinent thing. It seems like more of a perceived issue than a real one. Even when you are minmaxxing a character, almost no-one has it perfect, and if they do then they planned that thing's entire run on path of building before they even make the character. These stats as well, they are just kind of whatever. The worst case is an attribute stacker has 5 less of an attribute. Oh no. I just don't think it's something to be really upset or dramatic about. When the reward was like 10% chaos res while you had -10% chaos res it was just kinda stupid, especially for those transitioning to CI. Now it's fine. ehh, they don't really matter honestly. none of the options make/break the character.

" This proves my point. If the general feeling towards a game mechanic like permanent stat quests is either hate (myself and OP) or indifference (you and a few others in this thread) then that's a good reason to get rid of it. I don't hear any good argument for why they need to exist. |
