Personally I did not have any issues with bosses or clear for all of the campaign since first ascendancy unlocking Demon Form.

I am still running maximum 10 demonflame ascendancy, and maps are a breeze. I toss out ed->contagion and throw out Dark Effigy with withering touch and can't remember the name but the support that makes totems cast like 80% faster. Its basically instant cast.

I run whispers of Doom and mostly just use Despair only for super dense packs or super tanky rares/bosses. Apart from that I have chaotic freeze on my contagion and Enfeeble on Blasphemy (might switch to Temp Chains) so if I ever get surrounded I just spam spell echo hex blast on top of me. This pretty instantly kills chaff and freezes any remaining beefy bois

Having watched content of other builds, this is absolutely not a hyper zoom crazy build, its more akin to cold dot occultist in PoE1. Its not a zoomer, but its a reliable tanky damage dealer. It won't kill bosses the fastest in the game, but there is basically zero excuse to ever die on a boss because all you have to do is cast dots every 7-8 seconds and then focus on dodging. Even still, Doryani in Cruel Act 3 was maybe 2-3 minute fight tops. The thing with DoT builds is their DPS is not flashy, but your uptime should be basically 100%.

EDIT: just want to add, do not ignore Skill Effect duration nodes on the tree. Even just one "cluster" of them makes a massive QoL difference. I have 55% from tree and 12% from a jewel and then with ED swift affliction->chain->persistence it still has a duration of almost 9 seconds and this is before 20% quality.

Duration is not "dps", but it does help keep up consistent damage while not destroying your mana pool and makes bosses much more relaxed. The goal of DoT builds is never raw dps, its about dps uptime.

Ingame tree does not fit to the screen for a nice screenshot, this one is from mobalitics, what I'm working towards.

Ingame tree is similar, but not all of the curse nodes are taken yet (I de-prioritized those, which give no/low curse efficency).


Note: if I didn't have mana recoup on gear, I would pass through the left branch to the mana recoup node. Don't want damage taken to mana % be higher than mana recoup, mana is a problem without it.
