Stuffing the entire campaign full of bullet sponges, does not increase difficulty in any way. It just make it tedious and takes fun away.

You might have played more hours than the game supports. The plans for the campaign, in an early interview, were to randomize the maps, so they'd be different each time. That seems to have been put on hold while they rework the endgame.

My suggestion: do something else with your life and see if 0.5 tickles your fancy. If you've already put in a lot of hours, you've probably done everything, or at least everything that interests you.
