It's clearly not AI

I hate that I even have to scrutinize over these things, the fact people even have the gall to attempt to submit AI generated work in a fanart competition for some MTX is upsetting and against the spirit of the event.

Funny how moderation removed my post about it, saying its needlessly negative or antagonistic. When there was nothing but the word "AI"

But the truth cannot be silenced!!! >:(

Hey, here's my submission

Rendered in Unreal Engine, with a help of Blender, Marvelous Designer and Substance Painter.

Breakdown

First, I created character using Metahuman Creator. Newest version of it is very powerfull and supports parametric approach.

Then I exported combined skeletal mesh as fbx file, imported it into Marvelous Designer and set it up as a new base avatar. I created almost every piece of garment, excluding boots. I didn’t really care about topology as intended model will not be used as game ready asset.

Texturing was made in Substance Painter. I was going in a direction of geometric patterns and combination of linen, leather and gold-something not really fitting PoE’s art direction, but I feel it could be a cool skin line. Lines on pants will also be useful- in final composition it will act as leading lines, drawing viewer's attention

I knew I didn’t really have time to model boots, so I used free asset from Sketchfab- I just adjusted materials a little.

I imported clothing and boots into Unreal engine and rigged it to Metahuman skeleton. Then I edited character’s blueprint- added skeletal meshes components and set leader (formerly known as master) pose component- I didn’t need to do the latter as it is used to sync locomotion of multiple skeletal mesh components during gameplay and there was no gameplay in mind, but I am just used to it.

I used fully rigged and animated crossbow from another project of mine. Crossbow will be posed in a way that it will act as yet another element drawing viewer's attention.

Next step was creating Niagara fire and smoke. This had two reasons:
1) wooden shingles material doesn't provide enough clarity when viewed from afar it looked more like metal sheets. So I hid it behind flames.

2) Highlights created by fire is another element that draws viewer's attention. Pants, character's pose, crossbow, fire- all of the elements are leading viewer's eyes from bottom right corner to top left one.

Lastly, some in-engine visualisations, showing unlit scene, wireframes, lighting passes and nanite geometry.

The Ranger walks out from the Corrupt Domain’s Portal, holding Xesht head in victory, she carries the Head Hunter’s belt and in her neck the hanging rope from which destiny she escaped and became an Exiled.
