Thats indirect effect. Increased chaos damage can increase chaos part of hit that causes poison, but its not directly boosting poison even tho it deals chaos damage.

I made poison build thats entirely phys+ele and so any % increased chaos damage wouldnt do anything with poison.

So it only buffs skills for example where you add chaos damage to, or if you have nodes that say "extra chaos damage to attacks/hit"?

It would make sense for increased chaos damage to also work with poison.

As from POE2 wiki, poison DoT is calculated based on physical and chaos dmg of the hit that triggered poison.
"Poison deals 20% of a hit's combined physical and chaos damage dealt (before mitigation and damage taken modifiers) as chaos damage over time per second for 2 seconds."

So increasing physical or chaos damage of the hit should also increase poison DoT damage. But as far as I remember, during 0.1 patch chaos DMG modifiers had zero or nearly zero effect on poison DoT. Why I remember this? Because when I changed nodes on passive tree from chaos DMG to physical DMG all skills that generated poison suddenly started doing very high DPS even with one stack of poison. I think it was because there is not strong enough weapon with chaos damage as base to surpass the ones that have physical one, also physical DMG on weapons is much easier to scale up. Probably if the poison DoT were triggered by pool like in POE1 Caustic Arrow then the chaos DMG modifiers could be a much better choice.

Summarize:
Chaos and Physical DMG rise up Poison DoT DMG but right now Physical is easier to scale so it's better choice.

It actualy makes sense that increased chaos damage dont affect poison directly. It would be EXTREMLY strong due to double dipping.
