Sony PlayStation Item pricing is out of control
Although you can't compare pc to ps5, when you see that somewhat irrelavent gear towards your build is expensive its good enough evidence to suggest prices are way too high. PC is not PS5 but it can be used as a range point for pricing. Now if you take a pc item and muliplied it by 100% or even 50% or above, then I would say thats price gauging. Another big thing i'd like to mention is that, in general it stops people from playing the game as a whole cuz this game doesn't respect your time to begin with so imagine the level of grind at a ps5 level. If you multiply a helmet by 5 and its usually 10C, does that make sense to anyone here? Especially when theres an abundance of it. Not everything is out of this world pricing but I believe that anything that is build defining should be a bit pricey. The Echoes helm for Fissure of snaking isnt so bad even though its pricier. Also lets think about what it took to get Echoes helm, I believe its an uber elder farm and uber elder is not a fight you can just brush off. The point is prices should be higher but not astronomically. Also follow a good farm strat and it wont be so bad. I only hope GGG can control pricing with price ranging. You know, high rolls from 1-10. Cuz u can have a gear piece but if rolls are too low, sometimes its pointless or it could be your starter set etc. Hope this helps. Aside from this, peopke try strats there builds cannot do or are not made for and they fall behind. If I try ritual and my build isnt strong enough, then if i get low tier items from it cuz i cant juice enough, is it a good strat, nope it is not or am i skilled enough to taje on certain bosses like people have a hard time with Maven and its understandable, shes end game lol

" Before I dive in, let me say that *some* console pricing (and PC pricing!) is just based around stupidity and/or greed. Some people find something that no one else has, and think "I can charge 500d for it, no one else has it!". Unfortunately for them, the item is not worth that much. Not in market terms, but in terms of build power. Also, there needs to be a buyer with the resources to buy it. That said, let's have a little economics lesson: PS5 economy is MUCH MUCH smaller than PC economy (about 2% last time I had good numbers, which was, admittedly, a long time ago). It's all about supply vs demand. If 100 people want something, and 500 people have it, the price will be low. If 500 people want something, and 100 people have it, the price will be high. Do you think the price is case 2 will be double the price in case 1? It might be. But it might also be 100x. It depends on a lot of other factors. You can find examples like this in the real world, as well as other "simulated" economies. Now, the much smaller playerbase also leads to less diversity (in builds people are playing, in this case). If a build is played by 0.1% of PC players, than still hundreds on players. On console, that will be a handful, and might actually be zero. So, since less popular builds effectively don't exist on console (in terms of a market force), that means a functionally higher percentage of players are playing the remaining (popular) builds. Which means that there is more demand AND less supply. Why less supply? Because if you find something for the build you're playing, you don't sell it. And also because there are fewer players playing non-meta builds. So, when the build guide you're looking at says something is 20c, and the PS5 price is 1d, there are LOTS of possible reasons for that. Starting with the fact that many "league start" build guide are made at the end of the previous league, and some creators get lazy and just check the current prices of an item at league-end, forgetting that it will be MUCH more expensive in the first few days, especially if it's a popular item. Most common will be simply supply and demand. Supply on console is lower, and demand (percentage wise) is often higher. Could it be price gouging or market manipulation? Yes, it could be. However, unless you're looking for high value high demand items, it's probably not. Examples of things that often get pricefixed: Mirrors and related items, high value div cards, "obscure" currencies (like tailoring orbs, influence exalts, etc). Are these all pricefixed every league? No. Just like the build meta, the market meta shifts around. But the really short answer is: If you're trying to buy an item that is common or mid-commonality, not super scarce, then it's not pricefixed. Even on console the supply is too high for one person or guild to buy up all of the supply of these types of items. And a final note: This league has a worse economy on PS than every league since I started playing (Legion), and I blame the staggered start due to the bugs and whatnot at the beginning of the league. |
