One Lesson to Learn from Exilecon - Leave Einhar Be...
|
I'll preface this by saying that I thought Exilecon overall was amazing and am really stoked from all the new announcements. Can't wait for PoE 2 now! That said, I'm sure we all can remember how the event started, at least for those watching the livestream (dunno what the prep and setup was like for those at the event) - with Einhar. Like a lot of the community, I like Einhar. However, I know I'm not the only one who felt that bit was kinda like being at a kids' birthday party - as an adult (and I absolutely know it wasn't just me who felt that way, cos I literally borrowed that metaphor from someone else describing it). As a short 5-minute ice breaker, it might have been fine. But it just went on and on, getting cringier by the minute...
It also had nothing to do with the announcements being made. In terms of relevance, it would've made more sense to have someone (such as her VA) playing Zana launch the event. Or better yet just go to, you know, Chris and co. directly. This isn't just about Exilecon though. GGG has been increasingly leaning on Einhar a lot after having seen his popularity in the community (which isn't universal, btw). We've had Einhar-themed competitions, and Einhar staff account on the forums made for announcements, the latest Exilecon stunt, etc. This all despite the fact that Einhar isn't really any more important or central in the game compared to the other Masters (if anything, Zana has that honor, even carrying it further into 3.9 now). The only reason he's being leveraged so much is because a lot of people like him. Or used to. We still do like Einhar, of course, but as he is. The problem with using him so much out of his natural element (pun intended) is that it's not merely propping those other things up, but also dragging him down. Case in point - https://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/dwwviu/i_hate_einhar_now/ The more you use Einhar for stuff beyond his particular place in the game, the more it cheapens him and may even make some people start disliking him. I get it, you stumbled upon a star character and want to get the most out of him. But more you do so, the more you ruin his original appeal. It starts to feel like the endless Terminator films no one asked for. So a simple request - leave Einhar be. Use him only for stuff that makes sense, primarily anything related to Bestiary. Don't turn him into a crutch. The First Ones are watching. Prove you are worthy - on your own! :) Zuletzt bearbeitet von Exile009#1139 um 17.11.2019, 18:22:17 Zuletzt angestoßen am 18.11.2019, 10:36:27

he was clearly just stalling, there's no way this was intended to be so god damn long
and yeah, it was painful to watch |
|

Yep, most likely he was only meant to do that for couple minutes at most, but something in the back went wrong and he had to stall for a time.

" I'm more suggesting that it was a bad idea to begin with, even just as a short segment. And more generally that they need to lay off Einhar some. Unless you're suggesting that an Einhar segment wasn't intended at all? That I'm not too sure of - why'd they have an Einhar costume and his VA laying around in the first place, if they didn't intend to use them? In any case, it'd still help if he wasn't their go-to anytime they want to seem relatable to the community. Hell, even some of the other Masters have their own appeal in that case (imagine getting scolded by Cassia or Niko, for instance). |

Some people considered the possibility that he was in fact needed so that they could get Jonathan's live demo in order and make sure it could be done live with no hiccups. So the Einhar actor extending/stalling would mean that they possibly had some technical issues with the live demo.
All of this is speculation anyway and I think it doesn't matter in the end. Just getting Chris and co. up there with no introduction seems like an awful idea, they deserve to at least be introduced and have their names called out loud, with energy and ovation. |

LOL, it was not great, but damn OP it was no where near as bad to warrant that level of post.
Good grief. A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

can you guys stop shitting on people's work for a second? You're not talking about an NPC right now but a guy whose main job is to voice characters behind the scenes and had this time to be put on the spot with hundreds of thousand people watching on stream, considering he probably had to impro it from some point on, which is a freaking hard thing to do I think he did a great job, can you think for a minute that not everything can go according to plan while you're just sitting on your couch and judging the hard work that people put off just for your ass?
