When the beta ends...

I know there will be a general wipe with a few exceptions possibly pertaining to account names/character names after beta, but I didn't know there would be wipes during beta. Is that just a guess or did you read that somewhere? I could see a wipe occuring with the skill tree system but that shouldnt be changed very often if only a few times. Thats the only thing i can think of right now requiring or at least being useful for a wipe in beta.

If they didn't wipe the characters after beta and you didn't end up with a beta key I do not think you would be too happy come release.

I can see arguments for why wiping would be good. But I can also see the benefits of not wiping. Having a stable economy already in palce, for one, for new players. In the long run 6 months of additional play time won't make too much of a difference for characters you decide to play for a while.

I'll probably make use of /all/ 24 character slots when/if I get a key. So I'm fine with a wipe, starting over is fun, I'm just curious if there will be one or not.

Saying I'll be upset isn't an argument for having a wipe. Because there are many people who won't care after 30 seconds.

Realistically though, this is a closed beta. Large sweeping changes, balances, redesigns, feedback, bugs and a multitude of other things means wiping each phase gives them fresh feedback and intel to start from. It's probably easier between phases to wipe outright and start new with focus on specific systems or designs for focused testing.

Open beta however is a different beast entirely. Given the open nature of it, it's free game to anyone, and at that phase it's a stress test for server capacity and a demo for the public to try. Most the systems have finished their finalizations for release. Having characters go into live from an open beta is much more common.
