Why is GGG ruining POE for all but top tier league players?

You make it sound like only " top tier" players don't suck. If you can't handle Syndicate encounters you suck or your build does. Call it pandering to the " top tier" players if it makes you feel better.

The game isn't hard. The gated RNG is the only " hard" part. playing a slow character with bad dps is your decision though.

You are right, the game is not hard, players just need to be willing to accept the fact that GGG have no freaking clue on how to balance their own game and play shitty meta builds. The problem is, that just makes it a general cookie-cutter like every other hack and slash around.

People mock Diablo 3 because it is casual, while the real reason people stopped playing is because it effectively promotes cookie-cutter meta builds.

I somehow still enjoy playing Sacred 2 over POE at least for the last leagues, and that is an OLD game.

Sounds pretty much the way of online games these days, companies pandering to the top flight players and leaving the ordinary player who wants a bit of fun to rot.

Why is it, that people/players can't "have fun" in video games these days, without having access to everything?

Is it SO damn bad, that a game offers something to players willing/able to play A LOT? I just don't get it. You use the word "rot"? I'm playing casually and more or less self found. All guardians and Shaper done, and I have NO problem with the fact that I will never be able to farm Uber Elder. I do NOT feel that I'm "rotting" or being "left to rot".

For God's sake!

I think, to some extent, people set their expectations too high. They watch the streamers and try to replicate what they see. Some succeed and some don't. For those that don't, quite often the game becomes less 'fun' and more frustrating.

And how do you think the pizza business would do by alienating customers who just dont want anchovies?

Let's be fair here; it's less about "wanting" and more about "coping".

But I do agree with you here; Betrayal content was rushed into the main game. While I liked it as a league, I don't see how it fits the main game in any way. I also feel GGG are a little hellbent/stubborn on "forcing" it into the core game.

I don't dislike it because I find it very hard; I think I've dies a couple of times to Syndicate encounters this league. But because I find it "interruptive". But Syndicate is, as most "new" things, a learning curve. I've found that it has more to do with movement/placement, that is has to do with defenses and build.

I think this is a result of "casualization" of the whole industry, and not just streamers. "If I can't enjoy everything this game has to offer in a casual fashion, it's a bad design".
Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

I hear you OP but your premise is wrong.

GGG isnt catering towards the top players, the opposite is true.
Thanks to ongoing powercreep in the past years the game has gotten easier and easier each league to the point, that readily available content like red maps are a snooze festival now - including the boss fights.
There are very few and heavily RNG gated encounters, that are actually hard.

Neither Betrayal nor Incursion do require cookiecutter meta builds to beat the content, but well rounded builds instead.
Good dps, good coverage, good mobility and good survivability - how you do it is up to you.
Just "good", not "cookiecutter", will do. But you need to cover all 4 aspects.

If you dont cover all aspects, you will fail for sure.

Betrayal and Incursion are difficulty spikes though, they are harder than the regular content. That said, its not a huge spike, just a tiny one. Comparable to rogue exiles, when they used to be a real threat back in the days. Nowadays rogue exiles are a joke thanks to above mentioned powercreep.
All you have to do is to adapt to this and rework your builds with those spikes as well as those 4 aspects in mind and you are good to go.

I do realize this might come across as an arrogant posting, which isnt intended at all ;)
Its more a lack of vocabulary since English isnt my native language and my English is mediocre at best...
That said: If you want me to take a look at your builds and drop some constructive suggestions, feel free to PM me.

Cheers
Is the game poorly balanced? Yes
Is Betrayal poorly implemented? Yes
Are the two last leagues a disappointment? Yes

Is the game hard? Fuck no, what the hell, stop that. You can say that freezing is bad and you'd be right but this game is definitely not hard.

I think the premise of the thread is that Betrayal/Incursion are too hard for "ordinary" players and only the 1% can do them or something.

Chris is on record saying the majority of players don't reach maps. In his his GDC presentation he says only the top 10 percent are able to to reach 'end-game' content. People on these forums and reddit are unrepresentative of the population.
This is a F2P game, everybody can download and play it then leave after the first zone because of various reasons without losing anything but a couple of minutes. Similarly every person remotely interested can come for a new league, play for a bit then decide to leave.

The game being free is the only reason the number of players in high tier content is so low. As you know GGG are extremely proud of their steam numbers so of course they'll add the meandering guys who don't really want to stay to them.

If the game was paid for the numbers would be drastically different.
