This is a logical fallacy. If you make a wrong turn down a one-way street, you don't say you're better off just because you don't immediately make a U-turn.

Still, to clarify: I don't think Obamacare made things hideously worse in the healthcare industry specifically. The exploitation of the consumer by insurance companies is a predictable trend that began before Obamacare; while I can and do blame the ACA for failing to fix this, I cannot in good conscience blame it for causing it. For the most part, the ACA is snake oil: an expensive placebo in lieu of treatment. A good chunk of the cost is already spent and won't come back; the original disease remains mostly untouched, only slightly exacerbated by the false cure. If all we did was repeal Obamacare, the main benefit would be budgetary, which isn't meaningless at all, but it wouldn't have the effect of consumer relief that the American people expect from Trump; with the way the government takes on debt, budgetary improvements are mostly invisible to current taxpayers, and much more relevant to future ones. The Republicans need to actually fix the original problem, at least to some significant degree.

I wouldn't be so sure. 16 years ago, Trump advocated Canadian-style single-payer. It's possible that his position on the subject hasn't changed so much as traditional conservatives and alarmist liberals may wish to believe.
