To veteran poe1 players: Why does poe2 exist?

I did not really play poe1, but spent decent amount of time on poe2 and realized
that most of the assets and mechanics were imported from poe1. I've got few
questions, I am curious what long-term poe1 veterans think

1) Kind of premature but, do you enjoy poe2 as much as poe1 ?

2) What does poe2 genuinely add on top of poe 1 or do it differently and better? Do you think there are substantial changes/shifts apart from graphics ?

3) If I recall correctly, devs original idea was to develop the game as an expansion of poe1 but later this turned into a standalone project. If so, what do you think the reasons were?

PoE2 adds: updated graphics, WASD movement. These are the improvements. They also added a dodge roll and sprint, but removed movement skills for the most part.

Originally intended to bring PoE1 up-to-date, it turned into far more work than anticipated. As a result they chose to embrace some long lost "vision" they had for PoE1 and created a sequel using all their hard work. This upset some PoE1 vets who were supporting the devs by buying MTX(in the thousands of $$$).

I think the idea was a sequel would bring more money. They'd have 2 games with 2 alternating cycles and people would be playing both and buying double the MTX? But the reason is definitely money, it's a business after all.

I originally thought all players could be happy. If they eventually updated PoE1 with new graphics and WASD then players on each side would be happy. However, they implemented this alternating development cycle and the result is poor updates on both games. This won't be resolved.

i agree, they could update poe 1 graphics. but that probably gonna take a lot of time and resources
graphic update

blank slate, no power creep

think of it like a fresh league start, but for the entire game
We have no idea. It comes up a lot in the PoE 1 chat. No one really knows why, other then to maybe bring in a new audience that doesn't really play these kind of games with the hope that they will spend money. There are also a lot of people that seem to think that just because something is newer then it must be better.
Most of poe 2 assets and graphics are just copied from POE1 and improved.

So they allready have things ready to update POE1 graphics if they want.

Let us be clear in the end all the current development in POE1 will either be moved to POE2 after remake or they will update POE1 in the end.

An example the keepers of the flame league . This one was intended for sure for POE2, not poe1 specially with the monsters in the breach which all been revealed in POE2 first.

So both games run on the same engine, I believe and both games have the same assets and files. They did even mention in their first Q/A interview that they have both POE1 code and POE2 code in the same directory and they just copy and rework stuff for POE2.

Conculsion they did split into 2 games for extra profit as simple as that.

can they bring WASD movement to Poe1? The answer yes definitely, since it has allready controller movement. It is the same shit from a developer pov.

So I don't trust everything they say in their latest 2 leagues, theres is alot of lies going around.

POE2 is really a way to carefully rollout specific updates/mechnics so they can be refined and tweaked at scale with a large player base. Why was there a barebones EA release? So it's not a complete mess like POE1 with too many mechanics that are also oudated.
More Money >:D

I like POE2 more i'm sorry.
It's still equally as busted.

POE2 was announced to be in the same client as POE1, but with different gameplay.

A few of core vision of POE2 was, namely Fix Melee and "Vision".

The original POE2 vision is supposed to be "Engaging, tactical, Methodological" where timing, positioning and combinations of skills matters.

For the most part, the vision are very apparent in campaign, especially as melee, and against bosses.

Another prove are those disable "counters" for stun/freeze/electrocute/pin.

We can also see how gem works. First, they allow all gems to be 6-link, to allow combinations, but with a more technical support gems. Not all gems are about "more" multiplier. Some are attached with counters, condition, cooldown etc that to utilize them.

However, that's as far as they go, then 'betraying' POE1 players that supported via mtx by adding things that CLEARLY AGAINST POE2 VISION. The clearest examples are the fact they added Extra Content that are basically hoards, like Breach, Delirium, with the fact that End Game monsters that as FAST as they are in POE1.

Ultimately, End Game end up being just like POE1, speed, zoom, auto-bomb, off-screen, rules the game, completely opposite what's being set up during campaign.

Melee was fixed, only in campaign setting.

Also, Armor improvement is MUCH LESS INFERIOR (AR also) compared to Evasion (Deflection).

YET, ES still rules both defense and EHP.

Archnemesis mods are still much much more punishing towards melee too.

All in all, POE2 is the Campaign and Trials, but that's about it.

Doesn't matter why, still pulls x3 - x4 more players than poe1 on league launch and continues to do have a lot of players for a long time.

This is enough reason for devs.
