The Corrupted Nexus Mechanic ???

I'm relatively new to this game. Decided to do my own build and am currently at the endgame. I've done at least 30 maps without realizing I was supposed to be getting ATLAS POINTS to make these maps way more worth doing! I was completely unaware of this because I don't go out of my way to search up every little thing in the game before I encounter it. Turns out, when I died to my FIRST EVER Corrupted Nexus, I was then completely locked out of receiving Atlas points for completing that map.

But I didn't KNOW that. So I assumed - "cool. I died to the boss, but I still beat it eventually. Corrupted nexus complete! Seemed kinda unrewarding though. Oh well"

I then proceeded to die to the boss of the NEXT Corrupted Nexus I tried, and the same thing occurred. I was never made aware that dying there completely voids that Corrupted Boss, and you don't get anything for doing it.

It took watching a Youtube video of somebody talking about Maps to realize I had failed the Nexus on two occasions, and was doomed to grind to a bunch more to get points.

This SUCKS. NOTHING ABOUT THIS FEELS GOOD. PLEASE GIVE INFORMATION ON THIS MECHANIC - IN GAME, WITH YOUR OWN WORDS AS THE DEVS - Or don't make it obscenely punishing to die to the Corrupted Nexus. or just close the map if you do since it's worthless after that.
