Remove Wisp Encounter

Not once in my entire time playing this game since the December launch have I been happy to encounter the wisp event. Never once have I said "Oh Yes! I could have more fun or get something cool if I follow this wisp!" The event does nothing but p*ss me off and make me not want to play this game.

It's kind of similar to the Essence monsters, but at least those are optional and I can click on them if I want to engage with that content. These stupid wisps are often in a choke-point you have to run through and just frustrate you, slowing you down when you are already trying to get through an already time-consuming zone.

The one time I thought I'd be interested in the wisp event was when the Companion support gem came out. I specifically hunted a creature trying to get an Ox modifier on it to see if the tamed creature would have the power. Of course it did not and I had wasted my time. That might have been one way the event could be worthwhile.

I think the problem with wisps is that they are not significant, or are even a danger, until you have a lot of character power. I didn't see a benefit to the mechanic until I specced Merging Worlds and had enough survivability to kill three possessed rares that spawned on top of one another. A lot of loot dropped, including a Rabbit Idol, which was my farm target.

At least for me, it feels like a late-endgame-only mechanic.

Wisps are pretty underwhelming, which is ok I guess. Not everything needs to be giga.

What annoys me to all hell about them is when they decide to backtrack through areas I've already cleared.
If one starts going that way I'm instantly ignoring it.
Wisps are fun but they shopuld not dissapear. They just should wait for character and then go on. Or just stay in place if player ignores them.
Whisps aren't a bad idea in itself, but they need improvement.

First of all, the loot is generally trash, especially compared to essences.

Second, it is pretty annoying that you have to follow them where THEY want to go, instead they should follow YOU around and then possess the next rare you actively engage. It would be even better if YOU could tell them what rare to possess so that you can "collect" them from all over the map and then decide the target.

Third, they need to keep up with YOUR pace and not lag behind and also possess the rares much faster. I had it happening several times that the whisp couldn't follow my sprint speed and would then stop in its track somewhere. It also happened that the whisp didn't possess the rare because I killed it too fast and then it disappeared as it was the last rare on the map.

The idea around Wisps is "bog fires". So is should go where it wants and one can follow or not. They are a variation of this idea:

But they should wait for player not just dissapear.
I don't know why they don't just lead into the WildWood sometimes. That's where they came from to begin with. I get it's kinda close to abyss but who cares.

We could use all the league mechanics we can get right now.
