Do Mob Hit-boxes match their visuals?

Running Drowned City. There are little "zergling" punk mobs that are meant to surround you. Looks like plenty of room between them. I dodge roll trying to get through the choke-point to fight in a clear area and hit an invisible "wall." Surrounded. Dead. GG.
