Slamming Gear in Campaign

When you get to points in the campaign you want to craft upgrades such as when facing Act bosses, there is a major problem. For example When trying to make my own gear to take on Jamanra (lightning resist rings), I can use the currency I've found myself in the campaign, but let's say I'm level 32. I upgrade the ring with blue orbs and a regal. Then I slam my exalts. BAM! The ring now has level 46 requirement. My currency is now gone so I can't make another one or fix the problem. Crafting an upgrade now turned into bricking my character unless I go farm hours of my time again for more currency. Bricking my item with the solution being farming the Dreadnaught for hours so I can craft gear to pass the content is not good game design.
