Wolf/Hyena Companion/Minions

I was genuinely excited when I seen that there will be a pack of wolves you can run around with and seemingly tear mobs apart with. I learned pretty much after act 2.....they're kinda more like cosmetics and aside from infernal legion...status appliers. Companion damage hasn't been there since introduction, and level 6 skeleton gems do more than level 15+ wolf/hyena. Kinda absurd. If GGG isn't interested in scaling their damage at all.....what about something that can socket into talismans to give %damage of weapon to minions in presence? Or an outright spirit gem? "Watch how I do it" has been about the only instance I've found that wolves can do damage....but even then it falls off mid tier maps. I kinda had the idea of letting companion do damage and I bark orders ...but that's disappointingly not remotely possible. Derp
