Repeatability vs replayability
|
I find myself closing out of poe2 frequently. I get to endgame and just kind of do a few waystones, get bored, and log off.
In poe1, I get to endgame, blast maps, and only close or logout if I really dislike the mechanic or need to do something irl. While I was doing that, I started to ponder a bit more on both 1 and 2's main issues (for me)... I don't want to roll a new character and I don't want to run another waystone. And while I was thinking about the replayability aspect... I came to realize, most people most likely aren't talking about what I consider replayability. They are talking about repeatability. So I will throw some personal definition and give some examples. Replayability, to me, is going through a games full experience, more than once. Replaying the entire game. Repeatability, to me, is going through some piece of a game, over and over again. Repeating it. So for both poe 1 and 2... Replayability would be doing the campaign over and over. And Repeatability would be maps and waystones. And to me, both poe 1 and 2 have terrible replayability. The campaign is good enough for one run, but afterwards, you don't want to play it again. However, for me, poe2 has terrible Repeatability as well. Poe1 has perfect repeatability. My best suggestion for fixing replayability for both poe 1 and 2: Unlock waypoints after completing the campaign, for any character after the first. This makes it more jump in and go, and you can jump in wherever you can handle the difficulty. You should still have to complete objectives to unlock any given act, however, you should have the waypoints needed to jump wherever you want to go when you unlock that area. Repeatability for poe1 is fine. I think leagues should add new map types for each league, so you can run more league-centric maps, but I am fine shoving mechanics into plain maps if need be. Repeatability for poe2 however... There is a rework to endgame coming, so I don't think my suggestions would have impact. However, one thing I hope, is that waystone maps are at least 50% smaller. I like exploring the atlas, unlocking areas and getting citadels, pinnacle boss encounters, etc, unlocked and available to run. Making league specific waystones is great. A lot like having league specific maps. However, right now, the poe2 waystone map size is so big and long, that after one or two completed, I just log off, bored.
