Multiple Thornskin II can't be used?

Not sure if I am just missing something but I am unable to use multiple thornskin II across different spirit gems? Is there an assumed reason why this doesn't work? It says you cannot have multiples supports in the same skill but nothing about using the support across two skills. I am confusion
