Got stuck in POE2 chapter 4 "The Search" quest

In chapter 4's map "the excavation" I killed the boss "Benedictus, First Herald of Utopia", and started to walk in together with Tavakai. However I accidently chose "Respawn at checkpoint".

Now I cannot proceed chapter 4:

Makoru cannot be found anywehre, there is only Rhodri on the ship
I can sail to NGAKANU, but everything is peaceful there and only find Tavakai sitting in the hall.

Could you please let me know what to do to proceed the chapter.

what does the quest tracker say?
Did you go back to the forge after respawning back to checkpoint?

I have solved this by restarting the instance.
