Off-Meta: Dual Hammer of Faith Chronomancer
|
Who said you had to be a spellcaster when you picked Sorceress?
There is a bug to mention at the end of this- one that I really hope one of the devs get the chance to read and address at some point because this build is very fun and decidedly off-meta. How this build works is that you use Bringer of Rain helmet or Giant's Blood passive (your choice, I prefer Bringer of Rain) to enable yourself to dual wield the 2h unique Hammer of Faith. This hammer has the unique modifier "Every 10 seconds, Gain a Random Non-Damaging Shrine Buff for 20 seconds". For someone wielding one of these, that means that they will always, throughout a map, have 2 non-damaging shrine buffs, which include: - Acceleration (Skill/Movement speed) - Seeking (Rarity of items found) - Massive (Life/Global Defenses) - Replenishing (Life/Mana Regen) - Enlightening (100% exp gain) - Resistance (Increased current and max resistances) - Divine (You cannot be damaged) - Diamond (You always deal critical hits) Some of these obviously are far, far stronger than others. Rolling a Divine & Diamond at the same time makes you an unstoppable god for 10 seconds while they're overlapping and that's neat. However, what if you could have more buffs? Dual wielding the hammers should mean that you, constantly, always have 4 shrine buffs active; meaning you have a far greater chance to have one of those extremely powerful shrine buffs. But what if we could take it even further? Further like... 6 buffs at almost all times? There are two passive nodes in the tree: Prolonged assault, and Lasting Boons, both of which provide the effect "Buffs on you expire 10% slower." This turns each hammer buff into a 24 second long buff. But what if we took it even further BEYOND? Chronomancer gets 2 of these nodes in their ascendency, meaning they can, with allocating Prolonged Assault on their amulet, get a total of "Buffs on you expire 40% slower." 28 second long shrine buffs applying every 10 seconds, meaning you should almost always have 6 buffs active at once! Pretty cool, right? Well, not exactly. There is a bug- or at least what I would call a bug, and a developer might call a feature- where the game does not anticipate you dual wielding Hammer of Faiths. Every 10 seconds, each hammer rolls for shrine buffs; but here's the kicker: The hammers can both roll the same buff. No big deal you might think- but there's another kicker: They don't look for buffs you don't have already, or at least not buffs provided by the OTHER hammer of Faith. So, even without any amount of "Buffs on you expire 10% slower" through the passive nodes, while dual wielding Hammer of Faiths, there's a nonzero chance that you actually just roll 1 single shrine buff after 10 seconds. The "Buffs on you expire 10% slower" stacking helps alleviate some of this problem by increasing the window of overlap for these shrine buffs. In practice, this has meant that I can consistently have 3-6 shrine buffs at a time, but it's more often than not just 3. Which is still strong- strong enough to clear T15's and clear Citadels with the right supporting equipment and smart passive nodes (For example, I took Zealot's Oath and Prism Guard to maximize the regen and global defenses rolls). Rolling a Diamond shrine in the middle of clearing a map or at the start of a boss fight is a guaranteed great time... if you can survive to do it. Thankfully that's what Time Freeze is for!
