Scion for a starter?

HI! i know everybody says to just stay away from Scion if you are new to the game. but im honeslty obssesing about wanting to play this class.

but the only builds i found by googling says that i need to be super rich to even hope to make it work...

so i was wondering if i as a begginer am to try and play Scion, what the best way for me to start while being kind of a noob?

Without going toooo much into details: pick any build/guide, import into PoB, remap starting points for Scion - tinker to your hearts content all the way to league burnout.

Thing is, what people usually use as a measure for comparison - T17/Uber farming. But under that - T16, voidstones, 500 Orb of Regret builds... all that can be done with Scion, especially if you want to make it work and not just mindlessly follow someone's build. You will lack some DPS, lack some brute defenses, won't facetank Shaper beam on budget, etc - but again, for T16/voidstones it will be enough to last for many hours of tinkering and learning the game in the process. Playing character YOU want to play.

What Scion do have as a sorta problem-solution is Forbidden Flame/Flesh jewels that can create some curious things.

For example - I started this league with Scion, Sunder for 5 acts and from Act 6 switched to Flicker Strike with one single cheap few chaos orbs sword and now actually find farming T16 for leveling kinda fun. For the first time level 100 seems possible before burnout. PoB says, 5mil dps (but does not count Wild Savagery from Oshabi Bloodline), I don't die easily, I don't care about farming The Maven... I'm tinkering with build one Orb of Regret per... way too much :).

P.S. Anecdotal example for reference, some league ago I used Scion with Ground Slam of Earthshaking berserk guide. I literally squeezed everything out of it till obvious - Scion simply does 30% less damage compared to original build (due to how some nodes in Berserk ascendancy work). It was still cool learning experience though.
Respeccing is very easy nowadays.

You can just play the most meta Slam skill and do just fine.

Reap/Exsang has been around as a Scion starter for a while and is still decent.
Power Siphon Locus Mine should also still be good to start farming for your initial swap.

Those are some of the easier ones to start on Scion, which I would deem fool proof.

There are many more but easily move into territory which might be better to explore at the end of the league, when testing out things for the next one.
sorry if im being dumb. but both of you kinda recomnded slam build( and one reaper/exsang) . Do i just work my way from middle point over to wherever the marauder skille tree start and go from there. i would really appreciate if there was like some guide i can follow. but if following guides from oth4er classes can work, im up for that. im just confused about how to approach the skill tree with that. specially at the start.

andyday mentioned sunder,. i saw a buiild guide for that with armor stacker but everybody in game chat told me" lol, no. dont do that".....

like the build anyday mentioned at the end also sounds cool. im just to dumb to get how i should approach it with the skill tree i think.....
both slam and exsang starters path to the right over lifenodes, either to duelist if sword/axe or to jugg for mace/axe or for resolute technique(at least at the beginning)

for exsang i would urge you to maybe look up those miner builds(which are mostly done by tricksters currently), pure exsang is cumbersome in the begining and needs a bit of currency to feel fine beginning at yellow tier.

edit: armor stacking is currently not only weak, it also needs insane budget, If you have that kind of currency look up statstackers, currently mostly kintetic blast/bolt wanders
Current Build: Penance Brand

There aren't really many guides, due to how unpopular Scion is as a starter, for newer players. One method is to just check PoE Ninja and look at the early ones (like Day 1 or the Hour Snapshots before) and see what they do.

And not really a Guide but Tuadh has a few Scion Eater/Exarch runs where you can get an idea for:

-Earthshatter: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_KfiBV0Cdg
-Reap/Exsang: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4mhMKYJf6c

What's also kinda important is, if you know what you like to farm and what build you want to transition into

Slams are... strange. I did it once to 98 and never touching it again. That's just lifestyle choice. PoE greatly depends on how you feel your build. For me slams turned out to just not be it at all. Sunder was just a leveling placeholder used by pretty much anyone who start with physical melee damage, the only question is when you switch from it to your actual build skill.

If you just starting - you must first look around videos that showcase builds, just to get a feel if you like what you looking at... because you will be looking at that for a veeeery long time. Very. Long. Time.

Attached to said videos usually some kind of PoB/guide that explains build and its progression. Look for those that aimed at beginners and explain things, synergies, do's and don'ts. Most of them applicable to Scion at least until yellow maps. Then you reroute chosen build/guide in PoB to start as Scion. You can remap starting point of Scion at around time of getting to maps. If you are not rushing - levels through campaign will be enough of equalizer with any class beginner guide.

Just to emphasize - if you go with Scion like that - you DO need to go with "I'm learning the game" mindset. Or it may end up as a great disappointment. And I'm emphasizing this because actual guides for starting Scions are limited, no guarantee that you will like them or their skills. Pick skill first, adapt and fix as you learn the game.
