20c for all uniques.
Another 20-30c for decent rares.
Upgrades after that can cost from a few chaos to 10+ divines.

Damage sources are Crushing Fist 6link and Earthshatter 4link impaling. To scale damage and break faces we go facebreaker and get flat damage mainly from rings. With Reckless Defense jewels and the Binds of Bloody Vengeance belt we can invest in crit multiplier too.

The defense relies basically on blocking everything. You can achieve 75% regular attack and spell block. From there you can get lucky block with Gladiator's ascendancy, and even roll the dice twice with Azadi's shield, reaching 98% block with 2 lucky rolls.

I recommend getting the poeninja versions, and follow the talent tree and gem links until you get used to the build.

The belt requires level 78 and woespike rings level 80. Before that you can use rare steel rings and a rare amulet to help with resists.

We are using 8 uniques, which means life and resists that come from rare items are missing, and you'll have to find them in other sources (like fire/cold resist tattoos, nodes from the talent tree, and cluster jewels passives).

For the shield slot you have two options: Azadi for defense and Great Old One' Ward for offense. You can use the weapon swap and put your auras in the helm/gloves/boots if you want to use both.

Earthshatter was chosen as the secondary skill because Crushing Fist can activate the spikes.

You have to use the same points from your original tree to get the new ascendancies. So, instead of getting your 4th ascendancy as usual, kill izaro in uber lab and also the Nameless King to unlock his tree. Then you can grab the 3rd ring slot.

Large Cluster Jewels: search for nodes like Prodigious Defense, Veteran Defender, and Master the Fundamentals to fix your resists, spell block, and attributes.

The Champion's ascendancy Master of Metal can be obtained with Forbidden Flesh/Flame and provides a lot of flat damage with impales.
Enjoy the cheap uniques and corrupt them for useful implicits.

A Brutal Restraint Timeless Jewel can provide Onslaught, Attack Speed, and Attributes. The Balbala variant also synergizes well with the new ascendancy for unlimited mana/life flasks.
