Purity of Lightning

When I put on a support get that is supposed to reserve extra spirit on my purity of lightning it does not reserve extra spirit. If I dont have the spirit availible then it wont let me equipt the gem but if I have enough availible it will let me but doesnt reserve the spirit so I can put more in.
