The removal of multiple copies of the same skill gem

Since 0.3 it is no longer possible to use more then one copy of the same skill,
the exact wording in the 0.3 patch notes are as follows.

You can no longer socket multiple copies of the same Skill Gem into your main skill sockets. Skills not granted by gems and skills socketed into Persistent Buff Skill Gems do not count towards this limit. You can still have multiple copies of Spectres or Tamed Beasts, but only one of each kind of monster.

My feedback on this is simple,

Revert this change, i see absolutely no reason why this change was made in the same update that allowed the use of multiple copy's of support gems, and after trying several character builds i now realise that over half of the builds i was interested in trying out are simply no longer possible unless i spend the time to switch support gems every single map

Unless i am missing something and someone could explain what the reasoning behind the removal of this feature, that was in the game (seemingly without any issues) since early access launch, was suddenly removed without any specifications as to why this change was made.

GGG does not give without taking/costing.
Yeah, I can hardly see a reason why this was disabled all of a sudden? It's extremely annoying swapping supports on a skill before a boss fight, literally takes 20-30 seconds on controller. What's the reason for this? Please fill me in

So don't do that.

Equip different skills entirely for the mobs and the boss, and leave both socketed at all times.

Undoubtedly, if you're changing the supports to be better for map clearing / bossing, changing the very skill gem would be as helpful if not more helpful for that min maxing.

There are skills better for mobs, and skills better for single target.
Why would you change the supports on one skill over and over, when you can just use the mob skill with mob supports and single target skill with single target supports, and never have to update either one?

On my current archer, I'm clearing mobs with a piercing (ricochet) Ice Shot and taking out the boss with Stormcaller.
Using those two skills separately is a lot better than what I'd get swapping supports on one of them.
Agree with the OP. I want to play with a certain skill and atm I just swap gems which is mildly annoying.
Same conditions with buff skills. Why should i change all the time buffs when entering biss room and not by pressing one button that changes automatically my buffs skills??? Is so hard to implement it?
Ran into this absurd design decision recently with bear. Wanted to use the new warcry that slams the ground on movement. Found out that changing to bear form after going human to use the cry disabled the skill entirely. Now I have to either give up my rage gen through normal ferocious roar, nerfing walking calamity, or be able to use the new warcry. It's absurd to make brand new combos, and then intentionally go out of your way to make several of them just not function together. The 3 skill in tandem work really well together, and feel like a fun and engaging combo, but you just straight up can't use them all together in any meaningful way.
