Why is it intentionally so difficult to sustain T16 maps?
I recently came back to PoE 2 after quitting in 0.1.x, thanks to the introduction of asynchronous trade. It took a while, but I reached T15 maps. Now it seems I'm stuck there, no amount of overlapping overseer tablets will get them to drop. A quick google search revealed that the only way to get T16 maps is to corrupt a T15 and pray to RNG that it upgrades rather than bump it to T14, or get lucky and find a blood citadel.
And my only question is: Why? My build is capable of handling pinnacle bosses such as Olroth and King in the Mists at full power. Why is it necessary to gate my access to T16 maps behind pure RNG? I wouldn't mind if I'm required to complete the corruption quest chain to unlock access to them as drops or invest an atlas passive into it, but potentially bricking your T15s trying to go higher seems a bit ridiculous. I mean, build balance aside it seems clear they want a tier 1 above the published maximum that's difficult to sustain. So if they rebalance things so you can sustain T16 then they're going to add a T17 that's hard to hang on to.
I think the answer to why is the reason you're asking the question -- because it creates the feeling of something alluring but just a little bit out of reach with potentially lucrative rewards when you do get to spend time there. It also keeps the value of items available from that tier from deflating in value as fast as others. |

...You're not meant to sustain t16s.

" The reason T17 exists in PoE 1 is because GGG let power creep grow out of control and instead of nerfing everything, they went the direction of appealing to bored ultra-wealthy players by adding harder content. It's the same reason they added uber versions of pinnacle bosses. Neither would've been necessary if you couldn't trivialize pinnacles and T16 maps. This situation can be avoided right now if GGG keeps player power in check, there's no reason to gate T16 behind a harsher RNG wall that not even T17 has. t15s are just fine, not many people juice their maps then vaal them.
most people just slam a t15 to 6modrare, chaotic rarity omen +chaos, add desecrated prefix and instill with paranoia. that gets you pretty insane maps. the ones that are abyss overrun 100% rarity are 3div+. you wouldn't vaal any of the good ones, maybe the bad ones. running specifically high tier maps on irradiation is for the express purpose of better rare/base items. there is nothing you won't get in a t15 that you can get in a t16, apart from higher ilvl rares and bases that can roll ilvl82 mods. " I mean, if the idea of gating T16 is for the purpose of keeping some crafting bases valuable, then I guess it's one good reason. The problem in PoE 1 is that crafting bases lose their value rapidly as a league goes on with time due to the saturation in the market. Doing it this way gives you something specific to farm that isn't just accumulating the same stuff in bulk you could do on lower tiers. It's a weird reason, but I guess it makes sense. " It makes even more sense when you consider the boss atlas points are tied behind monster level, unique enemies also get the most rewards from difficulty, drop the most tiered items, and so bossing is very rewarding for just finding good quality gear. |
