Booby Trapped Chests

With the recent improvements to Rare and Magic Chests in Patch 0.2.0g, I would like to propose they could also spawn to be booby trapped. Booby trapped chests embody surprise and unpredictability that perfectly aligns with PoE2’s philosophy. Don't worry, these are not going to one-shot you, but rather do minimal damage. It just adds a little bit of surprise when you open a chest.

Upon opening a booby trapped chest, one of the following things could happen (includes visual telegraph of course):

* Chest ignites and burns
* Chest expels poison cloud
* Chest unleashes fireball
* Chest spawns Chestbeak (unique bird-like monster coming from inside a chest)

Chestbeak is a enemy that spawns when you open a chest in Shining in the Darkness, an older 90s dungeon crawler RPG game for Sega Genesis.

Yooo Chestbeak would actually be sick, I might even click the chests

Yeah, game needs more surprise elements and booby trapped chests would be a perfect addition. Also like Chestbeaks, could also add Handeaters, which are monsters similar to mimics from DnD.

mimic like mob would be great, even better would be a Unique mob that is buried underground, anglerfish concept. would be similar to Rouge Exiles but even more surprise factor

What if there were chests that turned into mimic rares, or bird rares, and then the unique that spawns more rarely was some amalgamation of the two. Unique Chestbeak, with a chest for a head that has a beak sticking out of it.

It would actually be so cool if there was a unique map just filled with these chests, or some way to have a chance at it on the atlas tree, too. "2% chance for your maps to be filled with X chests that contain a Unique enemy". "5% chance for X chests in your maps to contain a rare enemy". "Chestbeak Nest - I think I hear the chest squawking..."

We already have strongboxes, so I guess no need. Unlike PoE 1, in PoE 2 chests are actually good, especially the rare ones with yellow text. I got very good stuff from chests.

Yes. Basic monsters appear from strongboxes always, that you have to defeat to obtain the strongbox loot. This is clearly a very different premise. You do not expect monsters to pop out of a chest every time, especially not for the chest to grow limbs, come alive, and kick your sh*t in.

Nothing is "needed" it's just a cool idea, Nancy.

You forgot one important aspect that is missing from chests and strongboxes for that matter, its the element of surprise. This game need moments where you open a chest and it bursts into flames or a chestbeak pops out and starts attacking you. This is at the heart of any good arpg, just like D2 (which has a few of these things). With that said, booby trapped chests would be a great addition.

A map filled with chests containing unique monsters would be really fun!
