Spire of Ire - Life leech does not recover based on Chaos damage (like it states it does)

The spear "Spire of Ire" has the following line of text:

"Life Leech recovers based on your Chaos damage instead of Physical damage"

To reproduce the bug Equip the ring "Original Sin", which states "100% of elemental damage converted to Chaos damage"

Use any elemental damage source (like voltaic mark or herald of thunder or some fire/lightning attack)

Despite the fact you dealt 100% Chaos damage, you leech nothing

If Original sin converts all your elemental damage to chaos, and spire of ire makes life leech recover based on chaos damage, then chaos damage should leech life, but it does not.

Pretty sure life leech only triggers from hits you do yourself, not triggered nor secondary aoe like voltaic mark.
how can you tell herald of thunder or voltaic mark are doing chaos damage for example? i know you can infuse both but not sure about full conversion, sounds great tho :D
