Disconnected during ascendency trial

There should be some protection surrounding disconnects during ascendency trials. My friend and I were completing one today and I disconnected. When I joined the game again, I was not allowed to rejoin the instance meaning that the progress we made was entirely lost due to a disconnect which only happened due to insane server lag. I'm genuinely trying to enjoy this game but these situations where I'm punished for something completely out of my control make me want to stop playing it all together.
