Cannot Kill Water Goddess with Everburning Cinders

I killed her son but we died at the same time. Items DID drop on his death but when I respawned they were not there. He is now dead on spawn, Goddess door is open but I cannot continue quest as I wasn't able to get the items that dropped.

The everburning cinders are in the room that the Goddess is in, they don't drop from her son.

thanks i guess im blind. The boss still didn't drop his items tho LOL
