Unable to proceed past Act 1 Cruel after killing the Count

Hi all. I have killed the count, watched the interaction with the hooded one, and picked up my loot. When I went back to town however I ported to a friend's hideout briefly and went back to town. The hooded one is there and even says we need to proceed to the desert to pursue the corruption, but the option to actually travel there is not available.
