Want to go back in time 15 years to a really bad migraine? Pickup a controller.
This is absolutely a rant. Because it makes me lose my mind to try and think of the reasons behind the design decisions for controllers.
If my hands or neck start to hurt because my posture has been shit for the past 30 years of my life and I want to pickup a controller to relieve some of that pain…. why do I need to log out completely? not to character select but to the login screen? Why is this even a thing? Why am I completely restricted from using the keyboard/mouse until i log out again? (Except for chatting of course but to do that I have to hold (select), point at the inventory and open it, then hold select to bring up the ui that covers the ENTIRE SCREEN and hold mothertrucking left trigger to bring up the chat window input, then freaking rB or whatever to select where I want the chat to go, then I can use the keyboard????? What??????) Why can’t we use the normal pc ui?? Why can’t we customize controls? Why do we get a zoomed in pixelated grainy version of the ui?? Every other game you pickup a controller and it just freaking works. Nobody makes you log out to switch to a controller ui… like what is this??? I don’t understand why you guys are making whole new parts of the game just to use a controller… do you think we’re all blind as bat people sitting in front of giant screens and that we must be stopped from customizing key binds at all costs? Stop it already and unlock customization and let us use the normal pc ui. Better yet, allow custom player made ui’s because you know the community will come up with some killer stuff. It's the most half-a**ed and infuriating controller implementation I've yet to see in any game.
The biggest offenders, as you pointed out, the non-seamless transition that requires a log-out, and the disabling of certain keyboard binds & functions when using a controller (like linking an item in the chat etc., which is horrible via controller). This has to be a placeholder for now, because if this is what they actually envisioned as "controller support", I'd really urge any dev who worked on this to please transition towards accounting software, and stay away from games. |

" To me the biggest offender about controller is the auto-aim and priority mechanic. Since 0.1.1c it's been a total downgrade. We can't even pick stuff up as we more even if there's enemy around, even when there's the prompt interaction button to pick up targeted items. Now I need to absolutly stop, after making sure I kill everyone in the screen to even be able to, hopefully, grab the items without reapeated attemps. It's infuriation to have gone back to such goofy unintuitive method. |
