Omen of corruption and vaal orb on skill gems.

from what everything i've read about omen of corruption is that it eliminates the item from being unchanged. So how come that out of 4 skill gems, 3 of them were unchanged after corrupting even tho an omen of corruption was used?

All skill gems were lvl 19, 20% quality and 5 sockets. 3 of them stayed the exact same and ive spent time looking them thru thoroughly and compared them to non-valed gems and they are exactly the same.

i read somewhere that one of the outcome of vaaling is getting an additional socket slot unto the gem, and that there is a possibility that if you already have 5 sockets it would turn out "unchanged" instead since it is already at max socket limit.

For someone who plays solo self found this is extremely punishing to loose out on extremely valuable resources for literally nothing when the omen should rule out the "nothing" outcome.

Yeah, it rolled the plus 1 socket for them so did nothing. It is annoying.
Your odds of getting the +1 gem level outcome went up from 1/8 to 1/6 with the omen. Omen of Corruption could definitely be more clearly described but I don't think it would really fit the intended design of the corruption mechanic if it conditionally eliminated options only if they wouldn't be beneficial. Corrupting an item that can't benefit from some possible outcomes because it already has the maximum of whatever that outcome would have improved lowers the chances of improving the item, this is by design. Given how much less risky vaaling is in POE2 compared to POE1 already, I wouldn't hold my breath on a change that would make +1 gem level corrupts easier to get, especially one that would make them more likely to roll on fully linked gems and only fully linked gems, that would be quite an odd design choice.

Being frustrated after corrupting some items is the single most predictable element of the corruption mechanic ;)
