Potential Comet Bug? Always casts as if cast close.

Honestly, I'm unsure if this is a true bug or just something weird going on for me, but I've checked all settings I can think of and nothing seems to affect this. Whenever I cast Comet, it casts as though I had cast it targeting close by, jumping backwards. I have tried everything I could think of that may effect this, and nothing seems to do anything other than force backwards movement.

I have tried with WASD, targeting enemies at screens edge, targeting the ground far away, targeting every enemy or location in every distance from close to as far as possible. Tried the same with controller, and mouse movement, and no matter what it always performs a backwards hop.

Watching the little skill video, there's clearly a difference between when cast close and far apart. A jump is performed either way but only when cast close does the sorc move backwards.

I have no idea what I could be missing that's causing this. I see no patch notes stating it's been changed to back hop only. No settings I've seen, including things like holding the halt movement key or setting the skill to always attack while still, make any difference. And the only information on comet I can really find is about how it got nerfed weeks before I even started playing this game due to some strong interactions with CoF/CoC.

I know this is a bit of a long shot if anyone happens to know what is going on, but this is driving me crazy.
