bugged arbiter of ash

I defeated the arbiter of ash and died as he died... when I respond at the checkpoint he was dead and it says power awaits you.. it tells me to investigate the power but I can't walk over to it due to the starting statues that bow being alll over the ground. portaling out and back hasn't done anything either, my path seems to be blocked.
