[Invocated Efficiency] node does not return mana with Cast on Critical
I'm using Cast on Critical with Frostbolt skill gem that cost 126 mana.
I have 4373 max mana. Each triggered Frostbolt should generate 4373*0.03 = 131 mana with Invocated Efficiency node. My main spell that generates the critical hits cost me less then my mana regeneration (I can spam it indefinitely). Yet when a stream of Frostbolts is generated by attacking a boss, my mana drains very quickly. Zuletzt angestoßen am 07.02.2025, 12:32:36

I've just done some thorough testing of this.
Cast on Critical does not return mana with Invocated Efficiency at all. I tried a variety of different spells but in the end to prove this was the case I socketed level 5 sparks (lowest I could find) in 2 cast on critical strike gems and I fought Doryani in Act 3 Cruel and without either Cast on Critical loop active I sustained mana no issues, with both active I depleted my mana in seconds. Each level 5 spark costs 10 mana per cast, they have no supports increasing mana cost. I have 1162 mana, 3% of which is 34.86 so rounding down to the nearest integer that's 33-10 = 23 mana gained per activation, that means I should have way more mana regen not far less. EDIT: The wording of the passive skill explicitly states 'Invocation skills' which I'm guessing Cast on Critical strike is not. I'm assuming it's a hidden gem tag that applies only to trigger skills with 'invocation' in their name. This is a little weird/unintuitive but whatever. It also seems a little misplaced given how broken things like 'barrier invocation' are with minion feedback loops etc. and with the nerf to all trigger skills with Cast on Crit being based on ailment threshold etc. and Cast on Crit has a 20% less damage modifier, it is objectively less damage than Elemental Invocation but it allows for a more fun and fluid playstyle, especially given that one does not want to use their elemental invocation power until it's really needed so you just never end up using it which is an unfun mechanic, a fun killing mechanic. I want to have fun playing a game, not get depressed by it as my real life angst, paranoia and anxiety manifest in me hoarding my ability energy. Anyway, that's the tradeoff, less power for more fun, at least that's what I thought. Turns out Cast on Crit just isn't sustainable so the choice ends up being never trigger spells with Elemental Invocation or can't trigger spells with Cast on Crit. I basically did the same test today with 3 low levels frostbolts on cast on crits.
Same conclusion, it just doesnt work : - mana costs of frostbolts are 45, 45 and 27 (-40%cost gem) - I can sustain eye of winter no problem (4600+ mana mana pool with 900+ mana regen/sec) - Yet if I spam EoW on a rare or a boss, my mana disappears in seconds. |

Cast on Critical doesn't invoke anything.
" Cast on Critical isn't an Invocation Skill. |
|
Well either it's bugged or it isnt one, obviously.
If it isnt one, what is ? And why is this node is in the middle of meta related nodes (triggered spells damage, energy gain) that work with Cast on Critical. |
|
Invocation skills include Barrier Invocation, Elemental Invocation, Reaper's Invocation.
You know, the ones that are explicitly tagged as Invocations, and that you manually invoke by using the Invocation. They still trigger spells, so an Invoked spell is still a triggered spell so would still benefit from bonuses to triggered spells, so it makes sense that the Invocation-specific notable would have lead-up nodes that apply to triggered spells. |
|
That makes sense, I don't see Invocation tag though, it's just in the name and mentioned once in the description.
So maybe they can fix this by adding an Invocation tag. I would rather have this node applied to all meta. |

" poe2db . tw Elemental Invocation tags: Buff, Persistent, Trigger, Lightning, Cold, Fire, Meta Cast on Shock (not working too) tags: Buff, Persistent, Trigger, Lightning, Meta Cast on Critical: Buff, Persistent, Trigger, Meta tell me, where 'invoke' tag? |

" It's in the title. There's also an internal tag " |
