TOP 10 Best Modular Helmet Reviews - Which Helmet to Buy

The feeling of a cool breeze meeting your face as you cruise down the lane is very refreshing. But even at that speed you don’t wish to compromise your safety.  The best modular helmet attempts to bridge that gap.

The flip-up helmets give the convenience of feeling the cool lash of the wind and swapping to a full-face configuration for top safety. Sadly, finding that ideal modular helmet that leads in comfort, safety, and ease of use isn’t that simple. We took up the challenge and identified possible candidates who have registered impressive feedback, safety ratings, and nods from our experts.

Shoei Solid Neotec 2

The Shoei solid Neotec 2 has a retail price of approximately $700. So what makes it that expensive? It leads to exceptional ventilation and quietness. Very few flip-up helmets have nailed the high degree of quietness presented by Shoei Neotec 2. Changing between half-face to full-face configuration is also very smooth single-handedly.

 Scorpion Exo AT950

The Scorpion Exo-AT950 costs around $270. Top of its features is a peak visor that you can detach at will or flip up together with the chin bar. But it's the extra-large eye port and hence exceptional downward visibility that appeals to many motorcycle riders. It therefore becomes an ideal motorcycle lid for braving adventure rides.

AGV Sport Modular Carbon

The AGV Sport modular has undeniably impressive design and functionality.  Though it retails at about $705. It uses a robust material (carbon) in its entire outer cover. But although reliable in strength it still weighs 3.04 lbs. Such a combination of strength and lightness beats many modular helmets of its class.

Shark Evo One 2

The Shark Evo One 2, retailing at approximately $460 registers impressive aerodynamics regardless of the configuration. Thanks to its dual homologation rating and capability. Further, it has DOT approval for riding even with the chin bar pushed up. Such innovativeness gives it a leading advantage over many modular helmets. Hence it counts as the best modular motorcycle helmet for hot weather.

Schuberth C4 Pro Carbon M

The Schuberth though expensive (approximately $890) delivers in quietness and an amazing low-profile design.  Its weight of roughly 1600 grams is lighter and easy to bear. Considering it has seamless padding and medium size, it should feel comfortable to many riders. When you need quality and comfort, Schuberth doesn’t disappoint.

Nolan N100-5 Plus

The Nolan N100-5Plus taps on the innovative dual opening technology. Although such a mechanism may take a while to get around, it boosts your safety in case of an impact. Its drop visor uses an automatic retraction mechanism. Being dual homologated you can ride it with the chin bar open or closed.

Roof Boxer V8

At a glance, the Roof Boxer V8 (approx. $350) presents an appealing style and aesthetics. It makes a good choice for a rider looking for a helmet that stands out from the rest. The Boxer V8 has established its fame in Europe but is quickly spreading in America.

HJC IS-Max II

The HJC IS-Max II packs almost all the core features present in high-end lids at a pocket-friendly price (about $198). Such features include a lightweight design, functional ventilation, and a multi-position replaceable drop-down sun visor.

LS2 Valiant II

From its chin skirt and all-encompassing neck roll, the LS2 Valiant II helmet minimizes noise by a significant level to its predecessor. Further, the company has increased the intake and exhaust vent points and boosted its ventilation performance by a big margin.

Bell SRT

Standing as one of the brand’s top-of-the-range racing lids, the Bell SRT also gets a nod from the Helmetgurus team. Retailing at approximately $350 Bell SRT boasts fiberglass composite construction and supports wide field view visibility. Further, the optically correct visor and shield also boost its clarity.

Editor's Notes

There are core factors to consider when shopping for a top-quality modular helmet. Besides safety, we have taken into account wide fitting ability, weight noise performance, and ventilation. On those grounds, we decided to exclude ILM Bluetooth, 1Storm Dual Visor, and Typhoon G339. All three 3 models weigh more than 4 lbs and are thus non-comfortable on long rides.

Take note that most modular helmets aren’t approved for riding with the chin bar open. Such a configuration decreases the helmet's aerodynamics. Further, it also heightens the risk of rotational forces on the head and neck when an accident occurs.

That’s why we advise you to pick your dual homologated helmet from The Nolan N100-5 Plus, Shark Evo One 2, LS2 Valiant II, and Roof Boxer V8. Further, the Roof Boxer V8 has ECE approval and no DOT certification.

So, you can use it in European countries but not in the US.  When you need some of the top-quality modular helmets, consider Shoei Solid Neotec 2, Schuberth C4 Pro Carbon M, and AGV Sport Modular Carbon.

Though the Shpei Solid Neotec 2 dates back to 2017, it's still a camp that many look up to and hard to beat. On the other hand, the AGV Sport Modular stands out as the lightest due to its 3K carbon material in the entire shell.

But besides lightness, the AGV Sport Modular has a versatile use for fitting different riding positions. When looking for a helmet that supports comfortable upright or full truck riding posture, the AGV Sport Modular still fits the bill.

If you have earned the experience over Schuberth C4 Pro Carbon M then you agree that it has tangible improvement on the demerits of C3. One such improvement regards the efficiency of the ventilation.

Regardless of the modular helmets you choose, match it with a top-quality riding jacket and protective gloves. Your safety should be your top concern, so all the motorcycle rider's protective gear holds. And it’s wise to choose a helmet that gives you a snug fit; neither too big nor too tight.

You know what that means? Determining your head circumference and using it as the reference point in searching for a helmet of the right fit!
