Essence worm ring blocking all other auras

When I equip an essence worm ring I can't equip any other auras. I know it raises the cost of them but you should be able to use at least one aura with it on still?

This is more of a balance issue than a bug.

When they converted Inc/Red Mana Reserved into Red/Inc Reservation Efficiency they doubled the values. (IMR = Increased Mana Reserved, RMR = Reduced Mana Reserved, IRE = Increased Reservation Efficiency, RRE = Reduced Reservation Efficiency).

This is great for things that gave 10% Reduced Mana Reserved, which became 20% Increased Reservation Efficiency.

However, for things with Increased Mana Reserved, it became an overly severe penalty.

Essence Worm went from 40% Increased Mana Reserved to 80% Reduced Reservation Efficiency.

Inc/Red Mana Reserved works as a multiplier. 40% Increased means multiply by 1.4. 20% Reduced means multiply by 0.8. Pretty straightforward.

Red/Inc Reservation Efficiency works as a divisor. So, if I had 40% Increased Reservation Efficiency, that would mean divide the reservation by 1.4. 80% Reduced Reservation Efficiency means divide the reservation by 0.2, which is the same as multiplying it by 5. So even a 25% Reservation becomes 125%. Obviously impossible.

You can still reserve a 10% Reservation (like a Banner) with Essence Worm, or a flat mana reservation (like Clarity or Vitality) if you have enough mana to cover the cost at a 5x multiplier.

Or, you can stack some Increased Reservation Efficiency to counteract the 80% Reduced.

All that said, I think GGG needs to work on balancing the items with Reduced Reservation Efficiency.

With very small numbers, it's super easy to just cancel them out with beneficial mods. With high numbers, they're ridiculously punishing.

I see two ways they could go about it (although there may be others).

1) They could just fiddle with the numbers until it's "OK". Essence Worm should probably be 50% Reduced instead of 80%, for example. Still super punishing, but allows you still reserve a second Aura, even a 50% Aura (although you probably want *some* IRE to counteract a bit). Items with smaller drawbacks should probably have a minimum value of around 15-20%, or they're too easy to negate with a single wheel on the tree.

2) They could split Increased and Reduced Reservation Efficiency into two separate mods that don't use the same formula, and thus don't additively counteract each other. IRE could stay the way it is now, but RRE could become "multiply the cost by 1.x", just like it used to be when it was IMR. Numbers would probably need some small tweaks.
Thanks for the really great reply! I figured it had something to do with the new system, I just wasn't sure if it was math or a bug lol. I'm glad that I found the essence worm instead of buying one! I will just find some efficiency on the tree I guess and not mess with the ring. Thanks again!
Yeah I tried using essence worm and it made everything else too costly, but when reservation effeciency if you take the nodes and associated masteries for the auras you're running you can actually run more now than you used to
