Cant use my dedicated graphics card for POE.
Hello guys,
I´m having trouble choosing my dedicated graphics card with my HP Envy M6 Laptop. The specs are the following: CPU: I5-3210M CPU @ 2.5GHZ GPU: AMD Radeon 7600M Windows 10 Pro I have tried reinstalling all related drivers several times, using diffrent versions. I followed different guides to force poe to use the amd graphics via the catalyst tool by setting the energy economy for poe to "high performance". Disabling the Intel HD graphics is no solution either, since it will use the windows render mode instead, which is even worse. I have checked via task manager and 3rd party tools that poe is 100% not using my dedicated graphics. Other Games (e.g. Warframe) have no trouble using the correct card. I hope somebody here has some tips that could help me fix this issue. Greetings, Blixx Zuletzt angestoßen am 20.03.2019, 11:28:21

Isn't the card listed in the "Graphics" tab of the Options menu?
What happens if you try to add it manually to your "production_Config.ini" (in the "Documents\My Games\Path of Exile" folder): " ? Or can you change the graphics card in your BIOS settings? |

" Nope its not listed. " just tried that, doesnt change anything in the game for me. Even tried removing the intel HD from the config, which had no impact on the game either. It still showed it anyways. " Sadly, there is no option in my Bios related to the graphics card. I tried updating my bios, but that didnt help either. |

" Already tried that. I have no option to select a graphic card while right-clicking the poe launcher. I also added a profile in my amd settings, but it doesnt give me any option to select a card anywhere. |

You probably already know this. Anyway:
" Since you are missing the 'Fixed mode'[1] option (to change it into 'Dynamic mode') in BIOS of your HP Envy M6, the only viable option to get PoE running on it seems to be to rewrite/patch it with some custom unofficial BIOS. Unlocking your Switchable Graphics' Full Potential If you decide to do so, follow the link, sign up and read "How to properly request for a bios mod". Not trivial. To rephrase an older saying from the age of SCSI: "BIOS is *not* magic. There are *fundamental* *technical* *reasons* why you have to sacrifice a young goat to your BIOS every now and then." --- [1] " from HP Envy m6 Switchable Graphics not working?, 2013 Zuletzt bearbeitet von seisendrek#7442 um 19.03.2019, 21:52:16

" Thanks, ive read through most of the links you provided and most of it makes sense. Why does it have to be so overly complicated to use my dedicated gpu for a game? If i want to actually play the game on full graphics, i have to download a custom bios from unknown source, with the risk of bricking my laptop? Why does this seem to be only solution? I will still look through it and see if there already is a bios unlock for me... |

" It's not that complicated. Probably only a few bits have to be changed in the BIOS. " I agree, fiddling with the BIOS can be risky. But it is far from being an impossible task. You can not expect help from HP. So the question is, why GGG is not providing a fix for this? Other games seem to have no problem assigning the 'right' graphic card. There could be limitations in DirectX as it is the main developing platform, or the developers are just saying "it's a hardware bug" (which is true, but not helpful). Another workaround would have been to use an external graphic card (eGPU), but i ruled it out since the laptop needs to have Thunderbolt3 standard. Plus they're expensive and look more like a technological dead end to me. " I wish you good luck! Keep in mind that every gear has its lifecycle, and your laptop still sells for 400€. Yesterday i threw out my beloved two GTX285's since they don't support DX11. Zuletzt bearbeitet von seisendrek#7442 um 20.03.2019, 11:31:20
