Concentrated Effect + Righteous Fire
Not 100% sure these work together. I'm inclined to say they would, because Righteous Fire definitely deals actual AoE damage and there's no sideways about it like there might be with some other spells (like Ball Lightning).
But yet, my tooltip DPS on the ability doesn't move when I put the gem in, while it does with the Elem Focus & ... Scratch that. Controlled Destruction doesn't move the tooltip, either. Only Elemental Focus does. ¿¿¿POR QUE??? This game makes me so anxious sometimes. Zuletzt angestoßen am 23.01.2017, 01:49:06

RF doesn't list its Damage over Time.
RF doesn't deal Spell Damage (Damage over Time is never Spell Damage), and is thus unaffected by Controlled Destruction. Zuletzt bearbeitet von Vipermagi#0984 um 22.01.2017, 08:19:55

Oh. Well, thanks as always, Viper!
It's weird that spell damage can't apply, but elemental and area can. Oh well. Perhaps I'll just use Rapid Decay. |

" Ha! Righteous Fire doesn't have a duration, so Rapid Decay won't link up without a Spell Totem support. " They're entirely separate concepts, is the reason. Damage and related modifiers have a couple subdivisions: Source: attack, spell, damage over time, secondary - these are mutually exclusive Type: physical, fire, cold, lightning, chaos - F/C/L are collectively known as Elemental Misc: everything else - this category contains inheritable modifiers too* Righteous Fire deals Damage over Time, which means it can never be Spell Damage. Righteous Fire deals Fire damage in an Area. Its type is Fire/Elemental, and one of the misc modifiers it picks up is Area damage. * = ex. Poison applied by Projectile Damage inherits the Projectile modifier. |

Damn, what the hell.
I mean, maybe I can just 4th-link it with Increased Area, but I don't really need that. I thought Rapid Decay would work. Doesn't it work with Lightning Warp, which isn't a DoT? And Concentrated Effect works with Ball Lightning in regards to lowering the AoE size, but there's no AoE damage involved. I figured the gems just apply what they're able to. |

Supports with a penalty must be able to apply their penalty. Rapid Decay's reduced duration is technically a penalty, and thus it's the only relevant factor for linking.
Also worth noting, Lightning Warp can deal Damage over Time, with Ignites or Poison. Righteous Fire can never deal anything other than Damage over Time. |

" Maybe I'm just bad at skimming, but what is your current linkup? It's been a while since I've done RF, but IAoE seems useful if you use Conc Effect. Let's theorycraft... RF - EleFocus - IncBurning - ConcEffect RF - EleFocus - ConcEffect - IAoE Huh. Yeah, maybe I'm just not very creative, but it looks like linkup options for RF haven't changed very much over the past few expansions, barring perhaps the 6L Totem-RDecay setup. Need game info? " Not only has RF been lacking supports since forever, Essence even made 4Ls more popular for Righteous Fire, with the 30% More Damage for Socketed Gems crafts. It's just.. The better option. |

" Slight caveat there are a number of damage over time abilities that DO benefit from spell damage but they will specifically mention it (IE Vortex, SR, Blight etc) |
![]() |
" You are correct. BUT! To get really technical about that caveat there: There are a few Skills that apply Spell Damage modifiers to Damage over Time - however, the Attack/Spell/DoT/secondary distinction still stands; these Skills do not deal Spell Damage with Damage over Time effects. This is relevant for modifiers such as Infernal Mantle's on-low-Mana penalty. |
