Singapore Gateway / 200ms increase in ping, 2+ weeks running

The Singapore Gateway is having issues.
When previously I had pretty flawless 40ms constant ping, over the last 2 weeks only the ping increased to 236ms avg and even occassionally jumps to 550ms or 800ms+.

It seems your servers are broken again and you failed at setting up correct routing, load balancing, and so on.

I'm connecting from Thailand with multiple different ISPs either at home or at my office with fiber internet at both locations and it doesnt matter.
All connection hops with high latency are on Singapore-side.
My ping to the first Singapore server hop is under 30ms. Then it randomly spikes between ~230ms, 550ms, and 800+

WinMTR isnt going to help you fix incompetence in your sysadmin team.
Thats the problem, so go fix that.

To prove this, I can even tunnel into my VPN which is based in softlayer hosting center in Singapore.
32ms ping to my VPN.

Then I connect to PoE (through my VPN, which means it connects from my PC->VPN->PoE) - and there is NO DIFFERENCE!

Now as I understand it, your servers are ALSO hosted by softlayer in Singapore.
So practically in the same datacenter.
So the ping between my VPN (IN THE SAME DATACENTER!!!) and your server --- randomly spikes between 230ms, 550ms, and 800+.............

There is absolutely nothing wrong with anything but your own servers GGG.
This is absolute proof.

Having the same issues as well connecting to the SG Gateway. The random lag spikes used to happen sparsely, but it came a lot more often the past 2-3 days. My MTR and pingplot reported the connection was fine until SG NAP, but suddenly become unstable when it reaches PoE's end.

A lot of people in my guild and randoms in global chat were also been saying that they've been having the same issue regardless of which Gateway they're connecting to. Normally I'd default to blaming my ISP for gaming latency issues, I don't think that's the problem here. It's like people are taking turns getting the lag. I'm guessing that if this is really the case, GGG's servers have been having some severe load issues since the past few weeks.

Something needs to be done about this. I was very excited to be coming back to this game after years of hiatus, and was planning to lure friends into this game. I can't, and I won't, not at the state the game is in right now.

Same thing with me. SG started having these issues around 2-3 days ago but I went ahead and connected to AU instead which was working fine, until the latest patch went live and everything went downhill real fast. I was able to connect to Amsterdam and play but that too now isn't working. I really don't believe this is an ISP issue since a lot of people are already experiencing and complaining in the forums and on reddit - plus, I play several other games and those aren't having any lag/latency issues.

What's actually pissing me off more is the fact that GGG hasn't even acknowledged or said anything about this issue. Please at least tell us something... anything...

I am kind of new to the game and was contemplating spending real $ to support the game but with what's going on it's actually starting to turn me off.

Agreed with above poster that the lack of professionalism and maturity on GGG's part is completely unacceptable.

Hi there,

I am reluctant to reply to this post, given the general tone. However, I have been looking at the SG Gateway over the past few days, in response to players having connectivity issues.

Most of the reports have been ISP and provider related. The gateway has not been under any significant load over the past week, so I doubt that is the cause of your problems.

Your experience with your VPN would be consistent with poor connectivity to the realm. Traffic going through your VPN will take the same route as connecting directly, since the endpoint is in the same data center.

I know you don't want to, but I will ask you to follow the instructions here while you are experiencing increased latency. This will let me narrow down where the problem is.

Since walzalone has been the only one to actually post useful information, I'll respond to him here. The problem in the route happens here:

| 61.19.9.158 - 0 | 201 | 201 | 36 | 39 | 80 | 39 |
| 36351.sgw.equinix.com - 0 | 201 | 201 | 200 | 203 | 221 | 202 |

You see the average response time first jump a bit to 39ms, then to 203ms on the following hop.

I'd be inclined to think the problem has to do with the equinix.com node, but looking at the previous hop, I see that it also experienced significant jump in average latency over the previous node.

That IP of 61.19.9.158 seems to have some load problems. It appears to be hosted in Tailand but a company called CAT ( Communications Authority of Thailand ).

Everything after that looks poor because data seems to have trouble once it reaches that CAT node. To use a metaphor: It's like driving your car to work. The parking lot at work isn't too full and everything on their roadways, but the road you take to get to work is jammed up.

This isn't a local problem. Your response times locally and through your route are fine until you get to that node.

Since this isn't actually within the Network Layer nodes, there isn't much GGG can do. It is the responsibility of your ISP, though it will be tricky for them as this is deep into your route and sort of outside their network as well. So it isn't really their fault, but they are the only ones who can change your routing to avoid the troublesome node.

Re - Information provided by walzalone:

I'm raising an issue with our provider to see if they can help. The return route is taking a big detour, which will be adding latency.
