Elemental Proliferation - can someone explain this to me

Hello,

So I want to make an burning arrow ele prolif marauder chieftain (yes im stupid for not going elementalist witch, still I dont care about "the meta"). But I never really did a build based around prolif so Im a bit in a dark here.

I wanted to ask how the prolif is affected:

Whats the difference between linking the ele prolif to burning arrow or herald of ash?
Is it going to make diffrence in burning damage, cause so far its pretty damn weak for me (only got my maruader to lvl 40ish).

Cheers
YES I support the game, NO I don't agree with many GGG decisions

Lab still sucks balls.

I miss Zana already.

The main difference is that the damage penalty on prolif will double dip on Arrow and apply only once if you link it to Herald. Same goes for multiprojectile gems if you're suing them, by separating ignite from main skill you're avoiding negative double dipping. On the con side you're also giving up on positive double dipping supports, projectile skills have a lot of those and there's a limited amount of supports that work well with HoA.

In a nutshell, both variants have their pros and cons.
Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

You forgot to mention that linking elemental prolif to herald of ash is a terrible idea because that's adding a 140% mana multiplier to a mana reservation gem.

Yup, that's one more drawback, how serious it is depends on your setup.

About the mana reservation:
the cost of ele prolif with hoa is 35% mana resevation, which im completely fine with (i assumed this cost at the start). I only runing anger with it so i still 15% mana to spam my attacks.

So in layman's terms:
using ele prolif with burning arrow - more dmg due to use of additional supports (but I have to give up one gem slot)?
using ele prolif on HOA - less damage as no supports are linked (but the mana reservation cost is greater)?

Did i got this right ?

Sorry, if Im being really thick on this one, but as much as I like to play poe and understand a lot of it mechanics I never ever looked into how ele prolif works.

More like:

Prolif on the link: Less damage because prolif has a less damage multiplier, but you can easily proliferate those burns to everything you touch.

Prolif on Herald: More damage from your main link, but your proliferated burns are limited by killing an enemy first and other enemies being near enough to get hit by the Herald explosion, and your damage is limited to overkill damage.

Overall I like the idea of the second option more because it opens up more options (you don't have to use Burning Arrow, for example). You can overcome the need to kill enemies with the unique flask The Writhing Jar.

If you really want to focus on Herald of Ash, you can save some mana reservation by putting it in a Victario's Influence, getting a neat 20% reduced reservation. The free generosity only really affects typical auras, so it works really well with heralds and Blasphemy curses.
