Unable to use currency in stash to buy from vendors

I am attempting to purchase skill gems from Lilly Roth and from Nessa, but they won't pull currency from my stash. I have a currency stash tab, if that's relevant. They are willing to trade the same item if I pick up the currency myself and hold it in my inventory. I tried logging out of the character, and I tried restarting the client, and neither fixed the issue.

I just moved 20 alts to a normal stash tab, and then Lilly would accept them from there. She would not allow me to purchase goods in chances though, which are only in my currency tab.

After this experiment, I put the alts back in the currency tab, and now she is giving me the expected behavior. She is selling me anything, even the chances that weren't working.
Vendors only load your first 6 tabs, so move your currency tab to the left.

Hmm, that's interesting, and I'll check that, but if that's the case it wasn't happening all the time. I don't think I rearranged the tabs at all, but by moving some alts around the vendor was able to figure it out. I'll double check the tabs order, but I'm pretty sure the currency tab was past the 6th tab the entire time it was working and then not working. Is there a different way it orders them, like maybe by most recently accessed or something, rather than left to right?
In addition to the first 6 tabs, the vendor will see tabs past that if you load them first. If you open tab 7, and walk to the vendor, he will see tab 7 as well as tabs 1 through 6.

Ooooooh, yeah that definitely could be it then! Thanks.

So no offense, but this still sounds like a bug, or at least annoying quirk that could be upgraded. If I'm spending currency, I think it should come from my currency tab first and regardless of where that tab is. Is there a reason why I wouldn't want this to be the case in the overwhelming majority of cases?
Yeah, the reason is performance. It would be a tremendous waste of resources to load more than 6 tabs each time somebody went to a vendor. Some people have hundreds of tabs. They game would have to load the whole stash anyway looking for the currency tabs. And some people have many curency tabs too. If you’ve ever tried to transfer currency froma remove only currency tab to your full use one, you’d know what a pain that is. You can have 5000 alterations in one slot but you can’t move 5000. You have to move them an inventory full of stacks of 20 at a time. People don’t want to do that for every currency slot so they leave them in remove only tabs. So some people will have a remove only currency tab for every league since currency tabs were added.

Performance makes sense as a reason why, yeah. Fair point. It'd be a nice improvement though if I tried to buy something that I couldn't afford if it would check to see if I had a currency tab, even if it didn't look for other tabs. Or just save the performance entirely by loading only the first currency tab if I have one, making the assumption that any currency they want to spend will be in there. As far as I know, vendors don't pull anything except currency from your stash. I imagine since people knew how to answer my question that this isn't an uncommon one, suggesting that a lot of people are confused by it, fewer of whom report it or ask.

...I say it would be an improvement, having no idea how to code the game or even how to play it well :)
